MI SSIONARY MOMENTS

September 26-October 2, 2011

DEREK SPAIN was a chaplain for the Winter Olypnic Games  at the athlete's village in Whistler, British Columbia. Derek was chosen to be a chaplain because of the relationships he already had with the winter athletes he serves n his hometown of Lake Placid, New York. There, he directs North Country Ministries (NCM) and pastors Lake Placid Baptist Church. Through NCM, he and his wife, KIM, minister in the community through servant evangelism and by providing volunteers for sports venues. Your willingness to combine your prayers and your resources with sister churches through CP empowers creative and far reaching ministries such as NCM. Take some time this week to lift up Derek, Kim and NCM as they work to influence these international athletes.

"CHASE and RITA TOZER" serve as team strategy leaders for the Buddhists of the Eastern Himalayas. They work to take the Gospel of Christ to spiritually dark mountain valleys by training national believers to share their faith, disciple new believers, and form healthy, reproducing churches - thanks in part to your commitment to fulfilling the Great Commission through the Cooperative Program. During the last year, they trained more than 700 local believers in evangelism, discipleship, church formation, and leadership development. As a result of those trainings, many lost people have come to Christ, and churches are spreading through a dark land steeped in the ancient traditions of Buddhism. God's glory is covering the Himalayas as the waters cover the seas! Stop and thank God for moving in the hearts of these people. Ask Him to continue to draw people to Himself through these efforts.

More Active - increased already active involvement - 20%

No Influence - having kids did not change involvement - 50%

LEADERSHIP

Complication Number Seven:
"I manage people doing work in areas in which I don't have knowledge or experience."

At first glance, this complication sounds peculiar. If you don't have any knowledge or experience and the employee knows the work much better than you do, then why are you that person's leader?

Reality - Learn. You don't have to become an expert on the work that person is doing. But you do have to learn enough to mange that person. How do you learn? Learn managing that person closely over time. Sometimes you have to shadow the employee for a while. Watch him work. See what he actually does and how.

It is okay that you don't know or understand everything the person is doing. But it is not okay to remain in the dark and trust.

When you are spelling out expectations, focus on outcomes and ask lots of questions: "Exactly what are you going to do? Why? How are you going to do that? Why? What are the steps? What is involved in each step? How long will each step take? Why? What are the guidelines and specifications?" If the answers are vague, press for details. If the answers are complex ask for explanations.

Fact - Over time, of course, you will get to know the person's work better and better. You may never become an expert, but you will know more and more. You will be better able to gauge the employee's veracity, trustworthiness, and reliability. You will be able to tell if the person is on track or off track.

Remember, it's okay to be boss!

SAFE MINISTRIES

SAFE"It is always a great concern of mine as to how people are using the SAFE material. I prayerfully hope that everyone has the understanding that SAFE is 'not intended for use' apart from Christ as its undying theme, the Bible as its guide and the church as its chief administrator."  (Joey Carroll, SAFE Director)

There will be a SAFE Conference October 28 & 29. The course objectives are:

  • Understand SAFE objectives and course material
  • Review new updates to material
