MI SSIONARY MOMENTS
"ROYCE & LISBETH ALLARD" serve in western Nepal with their sons 'THOMAS" and "LEVI" as oral straegists among multiple unreached people groups. Because of the Hindu and Muslim background of the culture, the Allards and their Nepali partners place great emphasis on using Bible stories and Christian media to share the Good News and encourage believers to grow in their faith. In the spring of 2009, Royce began to share Bible stories with his friend, Saajid. Royce told him how God has been at work since the beginning of time to draw people to Himself. Saajid professed faith in Christ and began sharing with his family. In recent years the Allards have seen many receive Jesus and around 45 new churches planted, thanks in part to your desire to fulfill the Great Commission through CP and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Put the Allards on your prayer list this week.

In Northwest Nevada, you just might meet North American missionary MELANIE LAWLER as she serves the Sierra Baptist Association as a ministry evangelism specialist in Reno. Melanie helps churches develop and conduct ministries that reach beyond the walls of the church and into their communities. Nevada is known for many things, but most people don't know how vast the lostness is among those who call it home. An estimated minety-five percent of the people in northern Nevada don't know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Your commitment to reaching people through the Cooperative Program empowers Melanie and others to shine God's light to cut through the spiritual darkness that is so pervasive. Please add Melanie to your prayer list today. |
Give Hope, End Hunger.
In many ways, the United States is a land of plenty. But for 49 million Americans, hunger is a daily reality. At least 1 in 6 Americans, including 1 in 4 children, don't have enough food. Many families are forced to choose between buying food or paying their mortgage each month. Your gifts to the Domestic Hunger Fund allow missioaries and ministries inNorth America to meet the most basic needs of those around them in an effort to meet their ultimate need for Jesus Christ.

LEADERSHIP
Complication Number Six: "I don't have authority over certain employees, but I have to manage them."
If you have been given the opportunity to lead, or even deputized to lead out in a project, you very well might have to manage individuals that are not under your direct supervision to complete the project or task. The common question that follows this statement is usually, "So, what am I supposed to do?" The answer - draw from interpersonal influence to hold the person accountable. What are your potential sources of influence?
- Have your boss sit down with the whole team and clearly layout everyone's function and responsibility.
- Draw from your interpersonal influence, that is, the accumulated weight of the responsibility for the person you are managing. Have you had any kind of rapport with the person in the past? Will you have any kind in the future?
- Influence them through the persuasiveness of good reason.
- Draw on transactional influence. If you reach an agreement with a person, then you have a reason to expect the agreement to be fulfilled.
- Even if you do not have explicit authority in the relationship, are there consequences you can impose? Are there rewards or detriments within your control?
Beginning with the above steps will set the stage for the team communication expectation and chain of command. This will also allow you to get out front and lead.
It's okay to be the boss!

PRAYER REQUEST
Update on Cecil Sims from his son, Jamie.
Dad had his first appointment with the oncologist September 9 and we finally got the results back from the biopsy that was taken last Monday. In short, the cancer that is on the lung is not lung cancer; it shows to be a melanoma - or skin cancer. We can't know for sure, but it's possible that the source is from some of the skin cancers that dad has had removed from his head over the last several years.
The doctor did tell us clearly what we had already been told - that the cancer in his body is too far advanced to be curable. Going forward the emphasis will be on what is going on with the spots in Dad's head which are the source of his weakness and balance issues. The doctor has ordered another MRI to take place approximately two weeks from now (still waiting on an exact date). They will compare the new MRI with the one taken right after Dad was admitted to the hospital in an effort to see if: 1) the large spot on/near the cerebellum is active or growing; 2) the spot is in fact a tumor.
If the spot is NOT a tumor, then the doctor is leaning toward dad having had a hemorrhagic stroke - bleeding from the spot which caused dad's episode. The Doctor said that these types of strokes can take a while to recover from and that the physical therapy that Dad is going through (more on that in a moment) is the best course of action.
If the large spot IS a tumor there are a couple possible treatments, the most likely of which is radiation but he also mentioned another kind of "biological" treatment which is relatively new and quite frankly way over my head. Regardless the point would be to reduce the tumor in size in an effort to alleviate the problems it is causing dad.
So what about the rest of the body? Clearly the treatment emphasis is on the spots in the head not on what is in Dad's torso - largely because even though the spots in his body are advanced, they are not causing dad to have any symptoms. The fact that there are no symptoms in the body and that the cancer is advanced leads the doctor to believe that the cancer is a fairly slow moving cancer and that if Dad can get stronger and improve enough to go home that he could be around "a couple years". Please understand that this is not really an official diagnosis but one that I think the doctor is hopeful of.
In the meantime Dad is in a rehabilitation center a couple miles from home. He goes through physical therapy twice a day which thoroughly wears him out but we believe he is making some solid improvements. He walked 150 feet today with just a belt around him that the therapists use to keep him from falling. I don't think he could have done that a week ago. He still has balance issues but claims he is not having the same level of vertigo that he had originally.
We as a family are touched by the outpouring of love and support that so many of you have expressed. We continue to covet your prayers for Dad and the family. While there are many things to do on this end, we will try to send news of any significant updates as the occur.
Thank you for love and concern,
The Sims Family |

SAFE MINISTRIES
In recent days SAFE Ministries has been going through reorganization. After talking with Director Joey Carroll, he has indicated they would like to sell the property in LaCenter, WA. In a letter received from Joey, they are offering the property, including the house, to the Association for $275,000. The Association is obviously not in a position to purchase the property, but asked if we could share this information with other churches or non-profit organizations who might consider buying it for the same price. If you are interested, please contact the IBA office 503.452.2930 or Joey Carroll, 360.687.0720.

You will learn how individuals, churches and associations are organized to work together and coordinate a response with partner organizations such as the American Red Cross.
Southern Baptist churches, associations, and state conventions have purchased vehicles and equipment. One area that has assisted Southern Baptist Disaster Relief in becoming one of the top disaster response organizations in the world can be traced back to the training of volunteers.
