MI SSIONARY MOMENTS
August 1- 7, 2011
Laredo City, Texas, has a population of 300,000, but there are only 14 Baptist churches. North American missionary CHUY AVILA is working hard to penetrate this area with the Gospel. As a church planting missionary for the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, Chuy develops and implements church planting strategies for Laredo, one of the most unreached cities in Texas. Their initial goal is to plant 50 new congregations by 2015. In order to make this goal a reality, we need to pray, and we need to continue giving sacrificially to missions through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering and the Cooperative Program. Chuy and MARIA Avila are grateful for your willingness to be involved in reaching the people of Laredo. Your prayers do make a difference.

"BRIAN COLLINS" works with North Africian and Middle Eastern peoples including his friend "Farid," who asked him to lift up his graduate studies. "Months ago he presented his final project to his supervisor for review," said Brian. "For months Farid heard nothing, even after repeated attempts to contact him. Farid asked me to pray about this situation, so I lifted up this need and told him that I'd asked in Jesus' name that he would hear from his supervisor in the next two to three days. The next day, the supervisor responded. Farid's circumstances had been met by the Master! He was so excited, but he hasn't yet made the decision to follow Christ." Building relationships and sharing the Gospel is the heart of CP. Pray that Farid will become a follower of Christ and lead his entire family to do the same. |

LEADERSHIP
How Can I Manage The Masses?
Most of the time Pastors and leaders are responsible for too many people without cultivating other leaders. This has contributed to what could be called an under-leadership epidemic and could hinder what God has called us to do.
Last week we mentioned the fact that we need to talk to everyone we lead on a daily basis. However, this is not always possible. One might ask, "How can I talk to everyone, and manage them?" The answer is to pick targets during your management hour. Pick four to five people to focus on for at least fifteen minutes, making sure that the four or five people are not always the same people. For those you lead that are in remote areas, or have difficult schedules, utilize the phone and e-mail to communicate and stay connected.
However, some will still find this challenging and will leave room for a power vacuum. In the mist of the vacuum a, "ringleader problem," will arise. A ringleader is the squeaky wheel who has good relationships with everyone, and sometimes asserts their authority and influence in ways that are self-serving and often damaging.
To avoid the ringleader problem one must have a strong "chain of command," and use it effectively. You must cultivate leaders, and focus on them intensely to help them play the role you need them to play to help you with all the people God is sending, whether it be sixteen, sixty, or more.
In fact if you have sixteen, sixty, or more you know and are experiencing the fact that you cannot afford to be the only leader. Develop those that can be high performers who are in your inner circle. These individuals share and are focused on your priorities and are able to keep the main thing the main thing.
Reality check: do not give anyone leadership responsibilities of any kind - unless you are prepared to focus on those new leaders intensely and personally.

Keep praying for us because I really feel like some momentum is building toward breaking the big 100 barrier soon.
Please prayer for our Survivor Day Camps that begin July 25 and go through the 29th. Survivor Day Camp is our biggest outreach of the summer and we hope to see lots of new families reached. VOLUNTEER REQUEST - Japan 2011
General Description of Need and Project This team will be working with SBC and other GCC (Great Commission Church) partners in various construction projects. They will go into various devastated towns, villages, and/or cities in the affected areas along the Miyagi Coast to help with various carpentry jobs and needed repairs. Specifically, they will do light framing, hang sheet rock, put in sub-flooring, OBS weather proofing, and oriented strand board. In the process they will be encouraged to meet and assist people, befriend them, make contact to encourage them, and the need for skilled carpenters. These teams will remain flexible and ready to fill specific DR needs as determined by Tohoku Care (Japan Baptist Disaster Relief) as time and the situation require. Specific Type of Work to be completed Although the members of this team are being requested because of their carpentry skills to do light framing, hang sheet rock, put in sub-flooring, OBS weather proofing, and oriented strand board, these teams will remain flexible and ready to fill specific DR needs as determined by Tohoku Care (Japan Baptist Disaster Relief). As time and the situation require, they should be prepared to do whatever is necessary to meet people in the affected areas and assist by doing such activities as mud-outs, cleaning houses, streets, parks, public areas, delivering relief supplies, meeting particular needs, and encouraging disaster victims, etc. Team members should be alert to help identify needs for potential future volunteer ministries. The needs in the affected communities constantly change; therefore, the team must be very flexible, ready to do whatever is needed or whatever is requested. Tohoku Care is working to establish trust relationships with the various communities and with local leaders for long term relationships. We expect to work in conjunction with Sendai area churches for long term follow-up. For more detailed information and estimated cost for team members please (click here ) You can also contact the IBA/NW Disaster Relief Coordinator Dave Hillison at dr@interstatebaptist.org, or call him at (503) 789-6952. |

MINISTRY REVIEW
The Griffins have answered the call of the Lord to the ministry of music, and are dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in song. We believe the world we live in today is in desperate need of the encouraging and saving message of Christ and His promise of eternal life through salvation. We are blessed and honored to be given the opportunity to bring encouragement to those who know the Lord and more importantly, to use music to reach those who have not yet experienced the joy of those who are saved by grace.
The Griffins bring musical background of more than four decades to their ministry. Together the trio's close harmonies and worshipful melodies combine to be musical salt and light to a world still searching for answers to the ultimate questions of life. No venue is too large or small.
