MI SSIONARY MOMENTS
July 24-31, 2011
As you put feet to your prayers through your participation in the Cooperative Program, you empower "THE HORNBECKS" to minister among families who live along the Red Sea and African coast. They have many chances to share their beliefs with neighbors. Last month, they visited a friend who asked, "Why don't you accept our prophet?" During several hours of conversaton, the Hornbecks were able to answer her question with the truth. Two other missionary families recently found houses to move into that allow them to be closer to the people they are trying to reach. They are making friends with their neighbors and sowing seeds of truth as they develop relationships. One of the young local believers visits his "spiritual father" several times a week, receiving training. He shares the Scripture resources with others who are interested. God is building His church around the globe. Keep these missionary families in your prayers this week.

RANDY POOL assists the churches and associations throughout West Tennessee in addressing the poverty needs all around them and discovering ways to intentionally engage those in need with loving, practical ministry and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a North American missionary, Randy serves as a ministry catalyst and has seen many churches begin to move outside their walls and into their communities with the compassion of Christ. Jesus reminds us that there will always be the poor among us (Matthew 26:11), and whenever we meet their needs, we are actually ministering to Him (Matthew 25:40). Thank you for your love for people and willingness to put love in action through the CP. You are meeting basic human needs and showing people the reality of Jesus at the same time. Pray for lives to be touched and for hearts to be opened. |

LEADERSHIP
WE MUST LEAD EVERY DAY...But it begins with me
Most leaders are so busy with their own "tasks" that they think of their management work mostly as an extra burden. They avoid daily contact with those they lead the same way a lot of people avoid their daily exercise. They lead "manage" their people when they absolutely have to. We call this a phenomenon - managing only when it can no longer be avoided - "management by special occasion."
The only alternative to management by special occasion is getting in the habit of managing every day. As pastors this is very true, right? We cannot just expect our people to follow the vision and expectations that we have clearly defined, if we are only talking with them on Sunday, or when we feel like it. This is a daily process. I know for those that have more people to care for "manage" it is a little more time consuming, but it still needs to be done and that is why we surround ourselves with leaders we are developing on a daily basis.
So, where do we start? When it comes to managing we need to start with "me." Effective managing is a lot like being in good physical shape. The hard part is getting in the habit of doing it every day no matter what obstacles come up. So stop letting yourself off the hook. Stay in touch with your true priorities. Keep the main thing the main thing. You need to develop discipline and guts!
Here is where to start. You can start by setting aside one hour every day as your time for managing. During this hour, do not fight fires. This hour is for up front managing, connecting with your people. This might not be very comfortable at first, but it is a must as you take the proper steps to building discipline and guts. New behaviors, no matter how good they are, often don't feel comfortable until they become habits.
Leading is a challenge, but it works if you have: guts, discipline, and one hour a day!

Bring Refuge for Refugees in Greece To date we have received $1250 toward the $2,000 Matching Funds (see last paragraph). Members of The Crossing Baptist Church will be going on mission to Athens, Greece this summer. Cooperating with the International Mission Board, they will join Team Athens and the Oasis Refugee Ministry. Pastor Troy Pound will be leading the group, and will also use this opportunity to explore the possibilities of creating mission and church planting partnerships there. Every day refugees from North Africa, The Middle East and Asia arrive in Athens, Greece. Because of the Oasis Refugee Ministry many will hear about Jesus for the first time. We will serve by providing clothing, serving hot meals, giving groceries and sharing the gospel message. God will use us to make a difference for Him. We also have the exciting opportunity to discover how The Crossing Baptist Church will assist Team Athens with the Arms Around Athens Project. The goal of this ministry is to plant healthy churches within all the municipalities of Athens. Key leadership from The Crossing will accompany us as we discover the Lord's direction in partnering with these new church plants. We would like to spread the Gospel to unreached people in and around Athens. Would you assist us in accomplishing this mission? You can become a part of our mission partnership team? Here are some things we ask you to pray about: - Pray that our mission's team will be spiritually prepared for this work
- Pray that God will provide the $6,000 needed for the trip
- Pray for the safety and effectiveness of the Mission Team
- Pray the hearts of the people will be open to hearing The Gospel
If you would like to help with this worthwhile ministry, you can send your gifts to IBA, PO Box 19960, Portland OR 97280-0960. The Associational Leadership Council has approved $2000.00 matching funds for donations made through the Association. Future funding for mission trip support will also be included as a budget item starting in 2012 make our goal of assisting churches in missional endeavors possible. |

VOLUNTEER REQUEST - Japan 2011
General Description of Need and Project This team will be working with SBC and other GCC (Great Commission Church) partners in various construction projects. They will go into various devastated towns, villages, and/or cities in the affected areas along the Miyagi Coast to help with various carpentry jobs and needed repairs. Specifically, they will do light framing, hang sheet rock, put in sub-flooring, OBS weather proofing, and oriented strand board. In the process they will be encouraged to meet and assist people, befriend them, make contact to encourage them, and the need for skilled carpenters. These teams will remain flexible and ready to fill specific DR needs as determined by Tohoku Care (Japan Baptist Disaster Relief) as time and the situation require. Specific Type of Work to be completed Although the members of this team are being requested because of their carpentry skills to do light framing, hang sheet rock, put in sub-flooring, OBS weather proofing, and oriented strand board, these teams will remain flexible and ready to fill specific DR needs as determined by Tohoku Care (Japan Baptist Disaster Relief). As time and the situation require, they should be prepared to do whatever is necessary to meet people in the affected areas and assist by doing such activities as mud-outs, cleaning houses, streets, parks, public areas, delivering relief supplies, meeting particular needs, and encouraging disaster victims, etc. Team members should be alert to help identify needs for potential future volunteer ministries. The needs in the affected communities constantly change; therefore, the team must be very flexible, ready to do whatever is needed or whatever is requested. Tohoku Care is working to establish trust relationships with the various communities and with local leaders for long term relationships. We expect to work in conjunction with Sendai area churches for long term follow-up. For more detailed information and estimated cost for team members please (click here ) You can also contact the IBA/NW Disaster Relief Coordinator Dave Hillison at dr@interstatebaptist.org, or call him at (503) 789-6952. |

MINISTRY REVIEW
The Griffins have answered the call of the Lord to the ministry of music, and are dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in song. We believe the world we live in today is in desperate need of the encouraging and saving message of Christ and His promise of eternal life through salvation. We are blessed and honored to be given the opportunity to bring encouragement to those who know the Lord and more importantly, to use music to reach those who have not yet experienced the joy of those who are saved by grace.
The Griffins bring musical background of more than four decades to their ministry. Together the trio's close harmonies and worshipful melodies combine to be musical salt and light to a world still searching for answers to the ultimate questions of life. No venue is too large or small.
