MISSION EXPRESS

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!
The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving and giving locally and to the world as an Association.
This year's offering will be used as follows:
Leadership Development -
Healthy, growing pastors are essential for developing healthy, growing churches. We would like to develop SALT (Strengthen Associational Leadership Team) to support and resource our pastors.
This team focuses on supporting pastors with practical needs during hard times as well as creating opportunities for training, mentoring, coaching, partner-ships, assessments, consulta-tions, and whatever other means we can access to resource these men of God so they can continue to grow in their ability to lead, equip, preach, and impact their community for God; keeping in mind every pastorate is unique.
IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.
Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.
Offering Goal for 2011:
$7,000.00
This offering can be collected and turned in year round. We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis is:
May 15-22, 2011

MISSIONARY MOMENTS
May 1 - May 8, 2011
"R and J' run a community center in Southeast Asia that helps facilitate leadership training for national believers. Their strategy is to go out and evangelize, starting groups that turn into house churches. They've had the opportunity to work alongside and disciple seven national partners, and over the past year, these believers' understanding of the Great Commission has grown. R and J have watched these seven people go out weekly, evangelize, start new groups, and fully live for the Lord. By the end of 2009, these seven had baptized 13 new believers. Church planting among national partners is just one way your commitment to reaching people through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is making a difference. During your prayer time, ask God to bless the witness of these national partners.

North American missionary ED MONCADA coordinates the International Collegiate Ministries for the Missouri Baptist Convention. He is burdened about reaching the future world leaders on campus. His wife, ANGIE, assists in programs like English as a second language, cooking classes, and host family projects. Impacting potential leaders from other countires excites Ed and Angie as they engage these students in Gospel encounters. They need your prayers and your faithful participation in the Cooperative Program in order to be successful. Pray for the Moncadas as they prayerfully and intentionally influence college students from around the world. |

PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY
How to keep personal information secure whenever you go online

Social Networking
Maintaining privacy on social networks is like hanging your dirty laundry on a highway billboard and asking only your friends to look. While you can maintain some degree of privacy on social networks, it takes a lot of effort and is often contrary to the goals of the services. Remember, these services are free because they're selling access to you.
Your Private Profile
How to Protect Yourself The ease with which you can customize privacy settings varies by service. Twitter has just one option: On your Settings page, you can select your Tweet Privacy to protect your tweets (meaning that only people you approve can see them). At the other end of that spectrum are services like LinkedIn, which scatters its privacy settings across nine screens, and Facebook, whose supposedly simplified privacy settings span menus up to four layers deep.
No matter which service you use, it's incumbent on you to find out where these settings live (Google is your friend in that regard). Once you find them, the most important settings to look for concern:
· Who can read your profile
· Who can see your posts and activities
· What information is shared with external sites and businesses
· Which applications can access your data
· What information your friends can share about you
· Who can see your pictures and/or location
· Which sites integrates with your social network (for example, those that link with Facebook's Like feature)
Most services allow you to adjust privacy settings in these categories: friends (or immediate contacts); friends of friends (or second-degree contacts); third-parties; or everyone in the world. On Facebook, be sure to control what your friends can share about (under the hard-to-find Account> Privacy Settings> Apps And Websites> Info Accessible Through Your Friends), because that could override other settings. Also, keep an eye out for changes in the service's privacy policies, and adjust your settings accordingly. Finally consider what you put in your profile in the first place. There's no rule that you have to provide all the information for which there's a field. If you don't want everyone to know how old you are, don't fill in that birthday field. It's possible to provide virtually no private information yet still use the service.
Public Profile
The Risk Most services show the world a public profile, one that's different from the one your network can see. But that public profile can still include some pretty private information.
How to Protect Yourself Review your profile and see what information is public. Check your settings, then log out and look at your profile. Have a friend check from his or her account.
External Applications
The Risk With your approval, most social networks allow access from external applications, third-party games, and third-party sites such as Twitter. Some of these apps require complete access to your account, including ongoing access to all of you activities, perhaps even your friends' information.
How to Protect Yourself Depending on the service and application, you may be able to control what such applications can access. Do you really need to give the snowball app access to your photos and posts?
Your Friends and You
The Risk You and your friends can be the biggest threat to your privacy. You may accidently reveal too much about yourself by tweeting, posting, or updating without considering the consequences. How to Protect Yourself The first rule of social networking: Assume that everything you post is public and accessible to anyone forever. These networks are great for sharing and connecting, not so great for private communication.

Please pray for the Cripe family, the husband and father passed away suddenly. He is survived by his wife and two young sons. Pray for the church during this time of ministering to the family and for the family during this time of grieving that they will have strength as they grow closer to God.

KITS FOR KIDS
There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required. Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable. Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.
Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project! We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:

They call it Dignity. We call it a Mission.
GuideStone's Adopt An Annuitant ministry now has a new name - Mission:Dignity™
Since 1918, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a "Mission" to provide "Dignity" to retired pastors or their widows. To more accurately communicate the essence of our ministry, we have changed the name of the Adopt An Annuitant ministry to Mission:Dignity.
These are men and women who have faithfully served God's people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn't afford to contribute to their pastors' retirement. Often, these pastors had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet.
Mission:Dignity currently helps over 2,000 people with extra money needed for housing, food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity, independence and, often, the ability to continue serving.
Did You Know...?
The Mission:Dignity ministry spends approximately $6.5 million annually to help retired ministers or their widows.
Assistance from the Mission:Dignity ministry means recipients don't have to choose between food and medicine.
Approximately 60% of Mission:Dignity recipients are pastors' widows.
Your church and pastor will be receiving a letter with more information. |
