NJO

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Leadership Development -

Healthy, growing pastors are essential for developing healthy, growing churches. We would like to develop  SALT (Strengthen Associational Leadership Team)  to support and resource our pastors.

This team focuses on supporting pastors with practical needs during hard times as well as  creating opportunities for training, mentoring, coaching, partner-ships, assessments, consulta-tions, and whatever other means we can access to resource these men of God so they can continue to grow in their ability to lead, equip, preach, and impact their community for God; keeping in mind every pastorate is unique.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$7,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis is:

May 15-22, 2011

MISSIONARY MOMENTS

April 24 - May 1, 2011

As ministry catalyst for the Minnesota - Wisconsin Baptist Convention, DAVE WEDEKIND assists churches to enlist, train, and mobilize volunteers to be on mission in various ministries and during disasters, always looking for divine appointments to share Jesus. Penetrating the lostness in these states is an overwhelming task. Dave and the rest of the state missionaries in Minnesota and Wisconsin know that your prayers and your willingness to partner with sister churches through the Cooperative Program  are vital to this effort. Set aside some time this week to pray for Dave and JEANNE, his wife, as they encourage churches to be on mission for Christ. Ask God to move in the hearts of people in Minnesota and Wisconsin that they will be receptive to the Gospel as it is shared.

"ROBERT and HELEN ASHBURN" and their two children call a rural part of Southeast Asia home. In 2009, Robert befriended an area family, helped them farm their fields, anad often sat and talked with them over a meal, sharing his faith in Jesus. Unfortunately, they were reluctant to believe because they feared peersecution. One day Robert received news that the older sister suffered a stroke at age 48. She began praying to the One True God. Over the next eight months, the older sister made an amazing recovery that she attributed to Jesus. She persevered through the persecution, and on Easter 2010, she and her younger sister were baptized. This people group is hearing the Gospel in their own language for the first time and is being discipled, thanks in part to your continued gifts through the CP. Thank God for these decisions and pray for this people group today.

OUTLOOK

What is your desire?

In Francis Chan's book Love Crazy he asks some questions that just might ring through your head.  So, do you agree with any of the following?

Are the following true for you?

  • You passionately love Jesus, but you don't really want to be like Him
  • You admire His humility, but you don't want to be that humble.
  • You think it's beautiful that He washed the feet of the disciples but that's not exactly the direction your life is headed.
  • You're thankful He was spit upon and abused, but you would never let that happen to you.
  • You praise Him for loving you enough to suffer during His whole time on earth, but you're going to do everything within your power to make sure you enjoy your time down here.
  • In short: you think He's a great Savior, but not a great role model.

"He who says he abides in Him ought himself walk just as He walked." 1 John 2:6

We should not just love Jesus; we need to look like Jesus.  We need to stop and think about that.  We all need to make a personal decision to stop talking so much and begin living like Jesus.  Our personal visions and our church visions must be released before God's visions can be embraced.

We must come to the realization that our personal dreams, desires, and visions die painfully hard. But die they must!

God Bless

Brent

PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY

How to keep personal information secure whenever you go online

PrivacyONLINE SHOPPING

Most shoppers focus on guarding the privacy of their credit card data, and that's important.  But it's not the only privacy concern you should have when shopping online.

Identity Theft

The Risk Any time you use your credit card online, your identity is at risk.  Criminals can harvest thousands or even millions of credit cards at a time.  That's a problem for two reasons.

First, of course, your card can be used to buy all kinds of goods in places you've never been.  Second, an attacker can combine your credit card number with other personal data to steal your identity and secure credit in your name.

How to Protect Yourself Follow your instincts: Does an online merchant feel legit?  Next, do your homework.  Check out merchants via the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org/us) or the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide (www.internetretailer.com/top500).  Look for feedback on opinion sites like Epinions.com (www.macworld.com/6928).

Make sure you're actually on the site you think you're on.  Phishing or network-redirection attacks can link you from an email message or a Web page to face a site that looks like the real thing.  If you are a Firefox user there is a plug-in called LocationBar2 can help: It makes clear what Website you're using.

Attackers will go to great lengths to make their domains look plausible http://amazon.com.itakeyourmoney.ru, may look like the real Amazon at first glance, if you don't check the full URL.  (And the fake URLs are rarely this obvious.)

When you're on the real site, check the vendor's privacy policy.  It should specify what the vendor will and won't do with your data.  Search for terms like third-party, e-mail address, or personally identifiable information.

Regardless of your best efforts, your personal information may still be comprised.  That's why it's also important to monitor your identity through services such as Debix ($10 per month; www.debix.com), Citi Identity-Monitor ($13 per month; www.identitymonitor.citi.com), and Experian ($13 per month; www.experiandirect.com).  They will alert you when any new requests for credit appear in your file.  Get into the habit of checking your credit card and banking accounts frequently to make sure there are no unauthorized charges.

Spying

The Risk You may find it convenient when your favorite online merchants e-mail you offers for products you were thinking about buying.  But wait-how did they know what you're interested in?  Well, it's not a secret.  You told them what you like to buy when, or perhaps you told Google, as you were browsing Web pages for similar products.

With the advent of tracking technologies and sophisticated analytics, many Web merchants know exactly who you are and what you are most likely to buy (see "Web Browsing").  They know because you tell them through your buying and surfing patterns.  This is valuable data, and merchants can (and do) sell it to each other.

How to Protect Yourself As mentioned above, reputable retailers spell out how they use your information in their privacy policies.  Check to see if you can opt out of offers from third parties.

Consider connecting to the Internet through a VPN or private proxy, which will obscure your IP address and therefore your location (see "Networking").  This is effective only when browsing; once you decide to buy, your identity will be exposed.

Finally, if you're really paranoid, shop at a variety of sites to limit the depth of knowledge about you that any one retailer can acquire.  This has its risks, however; buying from a merchant who may be shady just for the sake of variety is counterproductive.

KITS FOR KIDSkits for kids

There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required.  Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable.   Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.

Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project!  We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:

2011 NWBC STUDENT CONFERENCE

NWBC Student Conference 2011On April 29-30, 2011 Northwest Baptist youth, friends, and youth leaders will gather for our annual NWBC Student Conference. This event for junior and senior high youth and sponsors will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. Our theme this year is "The Road". Our theme verse is John 14:6.

Our featured speaker this year is Ed Newton. Ed's website sums up his ministry perfectly: "In a culture where Biblical illiteracy continues to rise, the ministry of Ed Newton is centered on partnering with ministries for the purpose of leading others to intimacy in Christ through the proclamation of the Word of God." God has uniquely gifted Ed with an ability to connect with teenagers, personally and corporately. His communication style can be summarized as "passion with content." To learn more about Ed go to www.EdNewton.org.

Our worship band this year will be Arise. They are a Northwest band from Richland, WA, whose mission is to bring glory to God, and they cherish the privilege to express their worship through music with fellow believers. We are excited to have this young, talented band lead our worship times. Some of the band members grew up through their teen years attending our NWBC Student Conference. For more information on Arise go to www.ariseandworship.com.

If you have not already mailed your registration form and payment to Emily you can call or email her with your numbers and t-shirt sizes by this Friday and still receive the free shirts for your group.

Mission Dignity

They call it Dignity. We call it a Mission.

GuideStone's Adopt An Annuitant ministry now has a new name - Mission:Dignity™

Since 1918, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a "Mission" to provide "Dignity" to retired pastors or their widows. To more accurately communicate the essence of our ministry, we have changed the name of the Adopt An Annuitant ministry to Mission:Dignity.

These are men and women who have faithfully served God's people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn't afford to contribute to their pastors' retirement. Often, these pastors had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet.

Mission:Dignity currently helps over 2,000 people with extra money needed for housing, food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity, independence and, often, the ability to continue serving.

Did You Know...?

The Mission:Dignity ministry spends approximately $6.5 million annually to help retired ministers or their widows.

Assistance from the Mission:Dignity ministry means recipients don't have to choose between food and medicine.

Approximately 60% of Mission:Dignity recipients are pastors' widows.

Your church and pastor will be receiving a letter with more information.
