NJO

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Leadership Development -

Healthy, growing pastors are essential for developing healthy, growing churches. We would like to develop  SALT (Strengthen Associational Leadership Team)  to support and resource our pastors.

This team focuses on supporting pastors with practical needs during hard times as well as  creating opportunities for training, mentoring, coaching, partner-ships, assessments, consulta-tions, and whatever other means we can access to resource these men of God so they can continue to grow in their ability to lead, equip, preach, and impact their community for God; keeping in mind every pastorate is unique.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$7,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis is:

May 15-22, 2011

MISSIONARY MOMENTS

April 10 - April 17, 2011

North American missionary VICKI STEWART has a passion for reaching college students with the Gospel. As Baptist campus minister at Morgan State University, the fastest growing African-American college in Maryland, Vickie is actively sharing the Gospel, establishing a Baptist presence on campus, and encouraging students to attend church and share their faith with fellow students. Many students are spiritually hungry and searching for relationships, relevance, and spiritual truth, but are not finding what they want. Vickie knows that Jesus has a plan and purpose for these students. With our commitment to putting love in action through the Cooperative Program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, Vicki and her team can ensure that they can find the only thing that will truly satisfy, a personal relationship with Christ. Pray for Vicki and the students at Morgan State this week.

ERIC and RAMONA REESE serve in Brazil. When "James," a Brazilian known to call upon evil spirits, lost his home and family to floodwaters, he begrudgingly took refuge in the Baptist church. When James arrived at the church, he asked Eric many antagonistic questions. In turn, Eric asked James how he was coping with the hurt of what had happened and offered to pray for him. Soon the two men were hugging and crying. Eric believes that as Christians, we need to be closer to the areas where people hurt and be there to extend a hand as if it were Christ Himself. We are the hands and feet of Christ to people like James and others around the world, as we faithfully give to missions through CP. Pray for James to grow in his walk and for the Reeses as they live out the love of Christ in Brazil.

OUTLOOK

Mission Dignity

They call it Dignity. We call it a Mission.

GuideStone's Adopt An Annuitant ministry now has a new name - Mission:Dignity™

Since 1918, GuideStone Financial Resources has been on a "Mission" to provide "Dignity" to retired pastors or their widows. To more accurately communicate the essence of our ministry, we have changed the name of the Adopt An Annuitant ministry to Mission:Dignity.

These are men and women who have faithfully served God's people and now find themselves struggling to meet even basic needs. Many served small, rural churches that paid only modest salaries and couldn't afford to contribute to their pastors' retirement. Often, these pastors had to work extra jobs just to make ends meet.

Mission:Dignity currently helps over 2,000 people with extra money needed for housing, food and vital medications. It has also ensured a well-deserved dignity, independence and, often, the ability to continue serving.

Did You Know...?

The Mission:Dignity ministry spends approximately $6.5 million annually to help retired ministers or their widows.

Assistance from the Mission:Dignity ministry means recipients don't have to choose between food and medicine.

Approximately 60% of Mission:Dignity recipients are pastors' widows.

Your church and pastor will be receiving a letter with more information.

Kits for Kids Project

This summer Lifeway Christian Stores will partner with Baptist Global Response to feature the missions' project in their Vacation Bible School materials.  The project is called "Kits for Kids" and will involve U.S. churches and VBS groups in collecting/packing basic school supplies in 2.5 gallon re-sealable bags.   These educational kits will be mailed by churches to a warehouse in Virginia, and from there shipped out to various parts of the world for distribution to kids in need of these basic school items.

There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required.  Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable.   Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.

Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project!  We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:

Baptist Global Response

Please consider this opportunity to be the connection between Kids Who Care and Kids in Need!

2011 NWBC STUDENT CONFERENCE

NWBC Student Conference 2011On April 29-30, 2011 Northwest Baptist youth, friends, and youth leaders will gather for our annual NWBC Student Conference. This event for junior and senior high youth and sponsors will be held at Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. Our theme this year is "The Road". Our theme verse is John 14:6.

Our featured speaker this year is Ed Newton. Ed's website sums up his ministry perfectly: "In a culture where Biblical illiteracy continues to rise, the ministry of Ed Newton is centered on partnering with ministries for the purpose of leading others to intimacy in Christ through the proclamation of the Word of God." God has uniquely gifted Ed with an ability to connect with teenagers, personally and corporately. His communication style can be summarized as "passion with content." To learn more about Ed go to www.EdNewton.org.

Our worship band this year will be Arise. They are a Northwest band from Richland, WA, whose mission is to bring glory to God, and they cherish the privilege to express their worship through music with fellow believers. We are excited to have this young, talented band lead our worship times. Some of the band members grew up through their teen years attending our NWBC Student Conference. For more information on Arise go to www.ariseandworship.com.

If you have not already mailed your registration form and payment to Emily you can call or email her with your numbers and t-shirt sizes by this Friday and still receive the free shirts for your group.
