NJO

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Leadership Development -

Healthy, growing pastors are essential for developing healthy, growing churches. We would like to develop  SALT (Strengthen Associational Leadership Team)  to support and resource our pastors.

This team focuses on supporting pastors with practical needs during hard times as well as  creating opportunities for training, mentoring, coaching, partner-ships, assessments, consulta-tions, and whatever other means we can access to resource these men of God so they can continue to grow in their ability to lead, equip, preach, and impact their community for God; keeping in mind every pastorate is unique.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$7,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis is:

May 15-22, 2011

MISSIONARY MOMENTS

April 3 - April 10, 2011

For many years, MARK ELLIS worked in evangelism and church planting on the backside of the Amazon rain forest in Brazil. While there, he realized the need for national Christian leaders to have theological training, yet many were poorly educated and couldn't study at the seminary level. However, they were enthusiastic and wanted to start churches among their people. Mark and Brazilian leaders  started preparing seminary courses taught on the sixth-grade level and putting them on DVD. God blessed the project, and interest spread across Brazil. He and his wife, DIANE, moved to the city where a partnering Brazilian church is supporting the project. Your love for people and support of missions through CP are preparing leaders and reaching people throughout Brazil. Today, pray for Mark and Diane as they train Brazilian leaders to accurately share the Word of God, so new churches can spread throughout the country.

In New England, where less than three percent of its 14 million residents attend an evangelical church, STEVE NERGER, North American missionary, has a burden to reach the multitudes of lost people in his area. As state director of missions for the Baptist Convention of New England, Steve leads church planting efforts in six states that currently have only 280 Southern Baptist churches. Steve needs our prayers, our sacrificial participaton in the Cooperative Program, and believers who will come to New England and invest their lives for the sake of lost people. During your prayer time this week, make yourself available to God and pray for Steve and your fellow citizens living in New England.

OUTLOOK

Moldy Manna and Daily Devotion
God never blesses the past without pressing us to the future.

Look at the Israelites.  The Lord, having brought them out of the slavery of Egypt, did not leave them without provision.  Exodus 16 tells us of His care of His children, but also includes an ominous warning.  God's provision and blessing, "Gather as much of it as each person needs to eat.  You may take two quarts per individual, according to the number of people each of you has in your tent..." (Exodus 16:16) But the provision came with a fundamental condition:  the children of Israel had to gather manna daily, "No one is to let any remain until morning." (Exodus 16:19)  Those that tried to store it found out the hard way that the condition was to be taken serious.  However, each morning they were to gather it, but when the sun grew hot, it melted.(Exodus16:16-21)

They could not coast on victories won a week before, or even a day before.  Illustrative of God's method was the condition of yesterday's manna:  it was moldy, worm-infested, and putrid.  So is coasting on past victories.

If you assume you have served God enough in the past, and that God is satisfied with your previous service, then please read  Exodus 16:16-21 again.  If the Israelites dared to try to store up the manna, it would become diseased and infested.  God warned them to seek Him and serve Him daily.

If this illustration alone does not convince a person to get off the padded pew, or the office and once again join God's coalition of the willing. Then search the New Testament and see to what degree we are to live in the daily tense:

  • Jesus reminded us to thank God for our daily bread (Matt. 6:11).
  • We are to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow (Luke 9:23).
  • The Bereans were blessed because they searched the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11).
  • Paul noted that in Christ, we die daily (1 Cor. 15:31).

Daily bread.   Daily prayer.   Daily study.   Daily death.   It does not sound as if God is satisfied with our past victories, or that he blesses us when we coast.

Perhaps we can now understand the apostle Paul in a new light.  This man of God, the unceasing missionary of the early church, was certainly a strong student of Scripture and a symbol of Christian maturity.  So then why did he tell the Philippian church that he was still working toward a goal?  Surely, if anyone had arrived, it would be Paul.  Certainly if anyone deserved to retire and rest on a pew, it would be this incessant servant of God, yet look at his testimony in Philippians 3:12-15.

Was Paul insisting that the only mature Christians are those who forget their past and continue to serve Christ?  Would he not be satisfied if we just attended but never participated?

Even the writer of Hebrews seems to suggest that coasting and not serving God daily has a devastating side effect - sin.  More specifically he warns that if we choose to retire, quit, or otherwise cease serving God, we are hardening our hearts in rebellion.  God, he indicates is always calling us to worship him through service (Hebrew 3:12-15).

These familiar words were not directed to the lost person who has not accepted Christ as Lord.  These words were pointed at those who know God.  The only conclusion is this:  When we cease to serve him, we harden our hearts.  When we harden our hearts, we have bought sin's deception.  When we buy into the deception of sin, we are in active rebellion - rebellion against the Lord who calls us to serve him daily.

God Bless

Brent

Kits for Kids Project

This summer Lifeway Christian Stores will partner with Baptist Global Response to feature the missions' project in their Vacation Bible School materials.  The project is called "Kits for Kids" and will involve U.S. churches and VBS groups in collecting/packing basic school supplies in 2.5 gallon re-sealable bags.   These educational kits will be mailed by churches to a warehouse in Virginia, and from there shipped out to various parts of the world for distribution to kids in need of these basic school items.

There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required.  Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable.   Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.

Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project!  We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:
