NJO

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Leadership Development -

Healthy, growing pastors are essential for developing healthy, growing churches. We would like to develop  SALT (Strengthen Associational Leadership Team)  to support and resource our pastors.

This team focuses on supporting pastors with practical needs during hard times as well as  creating opportunities for training, mentoring, coaching, partner-ships, assessments, consulta-tions, and whatever other means we can access to resource these men of God so they can continue to grow in their ability to lead, equip, preach, and impact their community for God; keeping in mind every pastorate is unique.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$7,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis is:

May 15-22, 2011

Missionary Moments:

BRIAN and FELICIA HENDERSON work as English as a Second Language teachers and logistics coordinators of an interpreter ministry which trains and disciples students and trans- lators in Lima, Peru, thanks in part to your commitment to fulfilling the Great Commission through CP. As churches and groups from the U.S. travel to Peru on short- term mission trips and adopt un- reached people groups along the Amazon River, the interpreter ministry assigns translators to help each team share the Gospel. Every week, 50 to 80 students participate in four classes of English lessons and Bible studies. Take time this week to pray for the Hendersons, the people they train, and those who will hear the Gospel through their witness.

With a heart  for churches to be actively involved in church plant-ing, North American missionaries TIM and GEORGIA COTLER spend much of their time making that a reality across Illinois. From working with existing churches and challenging them to sponsor a church plant, to recruiting, equipping, and coaching church planters, the Cotlers stay busy. You're invested in this church planting mvoement as you participate in the Cooperative Program. Stop and pray for the Cotlers as they invest in church planters, church plants, and the churches that support them.

Mission DrivenMission Driven - Church Focused

The effective Baptist Association today is one that is "Mission Driven" and passionately purses positioning itself and its resources to effectively accomplish that mission.

Our mission is "Church Focused."  As we pray for transformation in our churches, we want to bring encouragement, support and resources which are customizable to help your specific congregation.  We seek to help Pastors and Leadership by providing resources that help the churches in the area of outreach, evangelism, Sunday school, discipleship, community and family issues, as well as assisting congregations to multiply themselves through planting of new churches.

Associational Emphasis Week is May 15-22, 2001.  This week provides a great opportunity to let your members know what the Association is doing in bringing support to help your congregation, and the other associational congregations.

One of the ways we seek to accomplish the above mission is by using the financial gifts from the Nelle Johnson missions offering.  This year's focus for the gifts are Leadership Development and the Continuing Education of our pastors and leaders.

Please begin know to lead your church in praying on how you will be a part of this year's goal of $7,000.00.  For we longing to make old things new, we are heading in a new direction! (see Mission Express for more details on Nelle Johnson offering)

LOCAL CHURCH NEWS

Rufus

IBA and SWEAT Ministries making history in Sherman County.  IBA and SWEAT ministires spent the weekend with Rufus Baptist Church installing their first 55 inch LED Monitor and multi-media system.  Everyone's reaction to the addition was positive. Several indicated how helpful it was for the music, and to have scriptures displayed. Pastor Scott Holliday expressed his gratitude to IBA and the SWEAT ministries team  for giving of their time to install and make sure everything was in working order before Sunday's services.

To share your church's news items or upcoming events, you may send your information to iba@interstatebaptist.org and we will include it in The Encourager.

Kits for Kids Project

This summer Lifeway Christian Stores will partner with Baptist Global Response to feature the missions' project in their Vacation Bible School materials.  The project is called "Kits for Kids" and will involve U.S. churches and VBS groups in collecting/packing basic school supplies in 2.5 gallon re-sealable bags.   These educational kits will be mailed by churches to a warehouse in Virginia, and from there shipped out to various parts of the world for distribution to kids in need of these basic school items.

There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required.  Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable.   Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.

Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project!  We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:

Please consider this opportunity to be the connection between Kids Who Care and Kids in Need!

MOVIE REVIEW

To End All Wars

I'm excited to let you know that WingClips and its partners have obtained the rights to the powerful film To End All Wars, and we have recently finished re-editing an all-new Director's Cut. This film had such a personal impact on me that I changed professions and started WingClips.com with the mission of helping to promote movies with redemptive stories like this one.

The message of To End All Wars is rooted in the true events that took place during World War II, when Allied P.O.W's were forced by their Japanese captors to build a railroad through a treacherous jungle. Stripped of their dignity and desperate to survive the inhumane conditions, these men bonded together through their suffering with a newfound faith in God and a love for their enemy. Experiencing the transformational power of Christ, stripped of all of man's religion, they became free to forgive and sacrifice for each other. This inspiring film leaves a lasting impression of what our soul truly longs for.

We are so passionate about the film that we want to partner with you to showcase the Director's Cut of To End All Wars in your community. Let's help share the only message that will ever be able to "end all wars." You can bring this film to your community as an incredible outreach event for Easter.
