NJO

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Mission Action - Provides flexiblilty in providing assistance to Churches or individuals in need.  This also allows the flexibility reach a little further in disaster relief and services that are available.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$10,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis in May.

Missionary Moments:

For North American missionary PAUL RODRIGUEZ, investing in and empowering local churches is a joy. In Twin Falls, Idaho, Rodriguez actively pours his tme, energy, and prayer into churches through providing connection points  for fellowship, infor- mation, and education. As a Hispanic, Rodriguez is able to bring a unique perspective to churches he serves, and with the Hispanic populaton increasing in many areas of the country, the opportunities to share Christ are great. Thank you for showing your love for God and for the people by faithfully participating in the Cooperataive program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. Pray for Paul and the churches in Twin Falls as they live out our God's Great Com- mandment and God's Great Commission every day.

BRADY and ANDREA NURSE serve in Portugal. They share some startling statistics from their people group. "In March 2010, a study was published reporting that the leading cause of non-natural death for Portuguese people is suicide. Another surprising study showed that 25 percent of Portuguese Catholics don't believe in an afterlife. Twenty-five percent of people who call themselves Catholic don't believe in heaven or hell. They don't believe in the places that Jesus talked about so often! Please remember them in your prayers. Ask God to open their eyes, ears, hearts, and minds to the message of the Gospel. Ask that people's lives would be changed for the better because of Jesus. Pray for the darkness, the depression, and the lostness here at the edge of Europe." Your gifts given to the Lord through your church and forwarded through CP are sharing light in the darkness.

NAMBWe have word from Atlanta...

SEND: mobile and equip churches to plant churches...

I had the privilege to spend a week with the North American Mission Board (NAMB) Associational Director of Missions (ADOM) meeting this last week.  I was encouraged and delighted in a lot of what I heard from the new President of NAMB, Kevin Ezell in light of his strategy for NAMB.  I wanted to share that with you today.

It is hard to follow if there is not a vision to follow, or if the vision is unclear would you agree?

Well, this week brought some clarity to the things that have been shared in private and public settings in light of NAMB as it relates to the SBC Associations.  I am encouraged to report that for some of us it might come as a surprise that the new leadership of NAMB finds that in order to carry out their God given strategy to "mobilize and equip churches in order to plant churches" would virtually be impossible to accomplish without the association, state conventions, and NAMB.  The new strategy also has two components that work simultaneously with mobilizing, and equipping:  In everything we do keep the focus on evangelism and leadership development.  For without these, planting churches is nothing more than a talking point.

Ezell gave an overview of what he would like to see the jointly funded and self-supportive association to do in light of the new strategy.  He asked the associations to focus on mobilizing the existing churches whether they are rural or mega, and help them to become healthy if needed, and to help them see how they can be engaged in planting new churches in North America and Canada.  Whether it is a solo, cluster (multi church partnership), prayer, and/or financial engagement, no matter the size, every church has something to offer.  He stressed that associations should assist churches and encourage them to engage in more evangelistic activities, and to encourage and cultivate pastors/leaders through leadership development.  Lastly, he encouraged the Director of Missions to intentionally be involved in planting a church, or assisting in a church plant.

Ezell mentioned that not everything has been fleshed out and this was a work in progress, but reassured us that this is not the end but the beginning of change that needed to happen a long time ago.

To speak to my initial statement and question, "It is hard to follow if there is not a vision to follow, or if the vision is unclear would you agree?"  I would say in light of this restructure from NAMB and the renewed focus.  This is something I (we) can follow!

Thank you for your support, and continued pray as we continue on our path at Interstate as we "Press toward the Mark!"

Let us work together to mobilize and equip your church....

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

Golden Gate

IBA Scholarships Help Students Attend Seminary

By Mark Bradley, Director

PNWC, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary

One of the pleasant surprises for me in my first year as director was discovering that the Interstate Baptist Association has some scholarship funds designated for adult continuing education, and that seminary students in active IBA churches may apply. In the fall 2010 semester, Tim Yater (pastor of LaCamas Heights Baptist Church, Camas) received financial assistance to begin his seminary training. This semester, five members of IBA churches received scholarships worth a total of $6,375. The students are Yater; Greg Ash and Rondie Taylor (both of Greater Gresham Baptist Church); Cliff Bailey (International Baptist Church, Tigard); and Troy Pound (pastor of The Crossing Baptist Church, Hillsboro).

It's a joy to keep discovering partners in ministry as we seek to train those called to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Brent Pound, Interim Director of IBA, has been instrumental in helping our students gain this financial support. We're enthusiastic about the growing number of students preparing for more effective ministry at our regional campus. If you're interested to enroll, contact our office at 360-882-2200.

Two-Day Seminars Offered for Ministry to Children and Pre-Martial Counseling

By Mark Bradley, Director

PNWC, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary

Although it's too late to seek admission to begin studying for a degree this semester, it's not too late to "audit" one of our intensive courses. When you audit, it means you have the privilege of attending, hearing the instruction, and participating in discussion, but you are not responsible for reading, papers, or exams. You will not receive a grade or credit. We're offering two courses this semester that will meet for only two days each. First, Dr. Sam Baker from Corban University will teach "Ministry to Children and Their Families." It will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5. Second, Dr. Norm Thiesen from Western Seminary will teach "Special Studies in Pastoral Care," which will focus on pre-marital counseling. It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. The fee to audit a class is $100. If either or both of these interest you, contact our office (360-882-2200) to let us know you plan to come.

If you have a degree, or are looking to attend some seminary courses near home in the Portland, Vancouver area you can receive information on the Pacific Northwest Campus of Golden Gate Seminary in Vancouver, WA  Please contact Mark Bradley at [email protected].

Kits for Kids Project

This summer Lifeway Christian Stores will partner with Baptist Global Response to feature the missions' project in their Vacation Bible School materials.  The project is called "Kits for Kids" and will involve U.S. churches and VBS groups in collecting/packing basic school supplies in 2.5 gallon re-sealable bags.   These educational kits will be mailed by churches to a warehouse in Virginia, and from there shipped out to various parts of the world for distribution to kids in need of these basic school items.

There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required.  Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable.   Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.

Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project!  We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:

MOVIE REVIEW

To End All Wars

I'm excited to let you know that WingClips and its partners have obtained the rights to the powerful film To End All Wars, and we have recently finished re-editing an all-new Director's Cut. This film had such a personal impact on me that I changed professions and started WingClips.com with the mission of helping to promote movies with redemptive stories like this one.

The message of To End All Wars is rooted in the true events that took place during World War II, when Allied P.O.W's were forced by their Japanese captors to build a railroad through a treacherous jungle. Stripped of their dignity and desperate to survive the inhumane conditions, these men bonded together through their suffering with a newfound faith in God and a love for their enemy. Experiencing the transformational power of Christ, stripped of all of man's religion, they became free to forgive and sacrifice for each other. This inspiring film leaves a lasting impression of what our soul truly longs for.

We are so passionate about the film that we want to partner with you to showcase the Director's Cut of To End All Wars in your community. Let's help share the only message that will ever be able to "end all wars." You can bring this film to your community as an incredible outreach event for Easter.
