MISSION EXPRESS

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!
The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving and giving locally and to the world as an Association.
This year's offering will be used as follows:
Mission Action - Provides flexiblilty in providing assistance to Churches or individuals in need. This also allows the flexibility reach a little further in disaster relief and services that are available.
IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.
Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.
Offering Goal for 2011:
$10,000.00
This offering can be collected and turned in year round. We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis in May.
Missionary Moments:
TARYN BLOCKER was heading to Spain when her plans sud-denly changed. A major car accident left hr thankful to be alive, but also left her with a broken jaw, broken tailbone, broken facial bones, two broken legs, and a cracked neck. For some, this might have seemed an end to her plans of international missions service. But through the healing touch of the Great Physician, Taryn was able to carry out God's plan as she safely arrived in Madrid n April 2010. Your faithful support through the Cooperative Program (CP) and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering enables God's work to continue in the lives of missionaries and those they are called to reach. This week thank the Lord for Taryn's healing and ask God to use her to draw many people to faith in Christ.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

IBA Scholarships Help Students Attend Seminary By Mark Bradley, Director PNWC, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary One of the pleasant surprises for me in my first year as director was discovering that the Interstate Baptist Association has some scholarship funds designated for adult continuing education, and that seminary students in active IBA churches may apply. In the fall 2010 semester, Tim Yater (pastor of LaCamas Heights Baptist Church, Camas) received financial assistance to begin his seminary training. This semester, five members of IBA churches received scholarships worth a total of $6,375. The students are Yater; Greg Ash and Rondie Taylor (both of Greater Gresham Baptist Church); Cliff Bailey (International Baptist Church, Tigard); and Troy Pound (pastor of The Crossing Baptist Church, Hillsboro).
It's a joy to keep discovering partners in ministry as we seek to train those called to serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Brent Pound, Interim Director of IBA, has been instrumental in helping our students gain this financial support. We're enthusiastic about the growing number of students preparing for more effective ministry at our regional campus. If you're interested to enroll, contact our office at 360-882-2200.
Two-Day Seminars Offered for Ministry to Children and Pre-Martial Counseling By Mark Bradley, Director PNWC, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary Although it's too late to seek admission to begin studying for a degree this semester, it's not too late to "audit" one of our intensive courses. When you audit, it means you have the privilege of attending, hearing the instruction, and participating in discussion, but you are not responsible for reading, papers, or exams. You will not receive a grade or credit. We're offering two courses this semester that will meet for only two days each. First, Dr. Sam Baker from Corban University will teach "Ministry to Children and Their Families." It will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5. Second, Dr. Norm Thiesen from Western Seminary will teach "Special Studies in Pastoral Care," which will focus on pre-marital counseling. It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. The fee to audit a class is $100. If either or both of these interest you, contact our office (360-882-2200) to let us know you plan to come.
If you have a degree, or are looking to attend some seminary courses near home in the Portland, Vancouver area you can receive information on the Pacific Northwest Campus of Golden Gate Seminary in Vancouver, WA Please contact Mark Bradley at markb@nwbaptist.org. |

Kits for Kids Project
This summer Lifeway Christian Stores will partner with Baptist Global Response to feature the missions' project in their Vacation Bible School materials. The project is called "Kits for Kids" and will involve U.S. churches and VBS groups in collecting/packing basic school supplies in 2.5 gallon re-sealable bags. These educational kits will be mailed by churches to a warehouse in Virginia, and from there shipped out to various parts of the world for distribution to kids in need of these basic school items.
There are millions of children around the world who are unable to attend school because their families cannot afford the basic supplies required. Others live in areas recently struck by disasters which render the supplies unavailable. Providing these simple school items will not only meet the physical needs required for education, but will also give missionaries and national partners an opportunity to share the love of Christ with these children and their families as the supplies are distributed.
Your Baptist Association can be a part of this exciting project! We need your help in promoting this opportunity with your churches. For more information visit the website www.vbskitsforkids.com or contact Baptist Global Response at this address:
Baptist Global Response
402 BNA Drive, Suite 411
Nashville, TN 37217
Phone: 1 -866-974-5623 (Toll Free)
Please consider this opportunity to be the connection between Kids Who Care and Kids in Need!

SAFE Ministries Update
Hello from SAFE ministries. I hope this update finds you poised for service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as we begin a new year. I wanted to take this opportunity as our first update in 2011 to catch you up on some of the changes at SAFE. Late December, Pastor Troy Smith felt led of God to step aside as CEO of SAFE ministries and focus his ministry efforts as Pastor of Community Baptist Church in Battle Ground, as well as begin to work on new ministry projects. The decision came about shortly after the Lord had called my family from Alabama to the state of Washington to serve as missionaries through the SAFE program.
My wife, Page and I at the time of our calling had been leading a SAFE program.

MOVIE REVIEW
To End All Wars
I'm excited to let you know that WingClips and its partners have obtained the rights to the powerful film To End All Wars, and we have recently finished re-editing an all-new Director's Cut. This film had such a personal impact on me that I changed professions and started WingClips.com with the mission of helping to promote movies with redemptive stories like this one.
The message of To End All Wars is rooted in the true events that took place during World War II, when Allied P.O.W's were forced by their Japanese captors to build a railroad through a treacherous jungle. Stripped of their dignity and desperate to survive the inhumane conditions, these men bonded together through their suffering with a newfound faith in God and a love for their enemy. Experiencing the transformational power of Christ, stripped of all of man's religion, they became free to forgive and sacrifice for each other. This inspiring film leaves a lasting impression of what our soul truly longs for.
We are so passionate about the film that we want to partner with you to showcase the Director's Cut of To End All Wars in your community. Let's help share the only message that will ever be able to "end all wars." You can bring this film to your community as an incredible outreach event for Easter.
