MISSION EXPRESS

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!
The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving and giving locally and to the world as an Association.
This year's offering will be used as follows:
Mission Action - Provides flexiblilty in providing assistance to Churches or individuals in need. This also allows the flexibility reach a little further in disaster relief and services that are available.
IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.
Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.
Offering Goal for 2011:
$10,000.00
This offering can be collected and turned in year round. We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis in May.
Missionary Moments:
North American missionary TOM STRINGFELLOW may be new to his current role as director of missions for Sierra Butte Baptist Association, bu he is certainly not new to living a missions life- style and leading others to do the same. Tom pulls from his 20-year experience as pastor to assist the thirty rural churches he works with who are quickly becoming lighthouses in their respective communities. Tom's light shines farther thanks in part to our faithful support of missions through the Cooper-ative Program (CP). Tom and the churches in Sierra Baptist Asso- ciation in California would appreciate your prayers this week as they work to shine the light of Christ in their communities.
MEGAN FINGER is a missionary writer and photographer from North Carolina. She lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic. Using multimedia, she communicates how God is working in Europe. She also helps create evangelistic materials for use among European peoples. Megan is new to the mission field, but has already experienced the grace of God throughout her application and orientation process. God has given her a passion for multimedia story- telling and missions. In spite of decreasing financial resources, God has shown His providence by making a way for her to serve using both of the passions He has given her. During these challenging economic times, our participaton in CP and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is more crucial than ever. Pray for Megan this week and pray that more workers will be sent into the harvest fields, even in these difficult economic times. |

Please pray for Sara Wisdom. After noticing some additional and different pain in recent weeks, Sara had a bone scan last Monday. Her doctor called Thursday night and gave her a written report Friday that revealed "new lesions in multiple sites of her body," in addition to known spots being "enlarged and active."
In the phone conversation with her doctor, he suggested she could receive some additional chemotherapy, or they could monitor her closely and continue treat the pain with medication (Vicodin).
Unfortunately her doctor is out much of this week and the soonest she can be seen is next Wednesday, February 2.
Please pray for her as she meets with the doctor and makes decisions relative to treatment. Sara appreciates the prayer and emotional support she is receiving. She shares that God is showing His presence every day.
Her computer is down right now, so she is unable to open emails. If you wish to contact her, she can be reached by phone at 360.885.9527. Her mailing address is: 8900 NE 36th St. #2, Vancouver, WA 98662. |

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TIPS

Communicating For A Change Part 14
Rules Of Engagement
1. Check Your Speed The Human brain can process words much faster than the mouth can produce them. Jeff Miller, in a piece he wrote for Leadership magazine, talked about a communicator's WPMs - Words Per Minute. According to Jeff's article, the average rate of speech for English-speaking Westerners is 150 per minute. "studies have shown," Miller says, "that speaking slightly above 150 words per minute adds an element of diginity to one's message. faster speakers - up to 190 words per minute - were rated as more objective, knowledgeable and persuasive than slower speakers." Your words per minute communicates your interest in and passion for your topic. When one my kids come running down the hall talking a mile a minute, I'm engaged before I even know what they are talking about. The pace is fast enough to make me believe that they have something important to say. However, talking too fast can wear people out just like talkng too slow. If people have to think too hard to follow us, eventually they will quit following. 2. Slow Down On The Curve It is easy to lose people in the curves. As you transition from introduction to the text to your point to your application, give people some sort of indication that you are making the transition. Remember, it is OK to repeat yourself! 3. Navigate through The Text The text should be the most engaging part of the message. But that requires some work on our part. - Have your audience turn to one text and one text only.
- Don't read long sections without comment. Comment along the way. Lead them through it.
- Highlight and explain odd words and phrases.
- Voice frustration or skepticism about the text.
4. Add Something Unexpected To The Trip The unexpected is always engaging. Always. If you have ever had someone pass out during the service or had a bird fly into your meeting room you know what I am talking about. When something unusual happens everybody is interested. So, plan something unusual. 5. Take The Most Direct Route In short, be direct. Your audience needs to know where you are going early in the journey. No doubt you have experienced the frustration of being ten to twevlve minutes into a presentation and thinking to yourself, 'Where is this going?" Now stop and think about that for a moment! Engage your audience!

CHURCH MINISTRY REVIEW
Super Bowl Outreach By: Texan Staff Texan Publication January 18th, 2011
Southern Baptists of Texas Convention is one of several Baptist organizations working to bring the message of Jesus Christ to those who flock to Dallas-Fort Worth the week of the Super Bowl.
Arguably the worlds greatest single-game sports event, the Super Bowl's 45th contest, to be played Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, is epeected to nearly 150,000 visitors to DFW. The SBTC, along with NAMB, Baptist General Convention of Texas, Tarrant Baptist Association and Dallas Baptist Association are joining forces in "Reach 45: The Big Game Evangelism Project."
Included in the Reach 45 events are:
- A "Million-Card Giveaway" in conjunction with the "I Am Second" organization the weekend of the Super Bowl
- 'I Am Second" church-based discussion groups
- A "Souper Bowl Caring" service blitz
- Community Watch Party in Arlington
- Traffick 911's anti-human trafficking tailgate party
- An NFL-sanctioned Athlete's in Action Super Bowl Breakfast.
The momentum of the Super Bowl event allows churches to point people to the positive examples in sports and to the good news of Christ.
To sign up for the event participation or learn more about the outreach and what your church can do locally visit www.reach45.com
