Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!

The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving  and giving locally and to the world as an Association.

This year's offering will be used as follows:

Mission Action - Provides flexiblilty in providing assistance to Churches or individuals in need.  This also allows the flexibility reach a little further in disaster relief and services that are available.

IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.

Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.

Offering Goal for 2011:
$10,000.00

This offering can be collected and turned in year round.  We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis in May.

 Missionary Moments:

During the past year, A MISSIONARY in Central Asia visited her friend, "Nora," and share her faith. Nora was pregnant with her seventh child and was not happy. She had gone to a docor hoping to terminate the prgnancy, but the doctor refused. She then tried to cause her own miscarriage. The missionary was able to share with Nora tha her baby's life was special, and that harming the baby would be wrong. "I have a big, strong God who loves you and this little baby very much," the missionary said. She assured Nora that she would pray for her. Later Nora told the missionary, "I feel better when you visit me. That is why I like you. Come to my house every day." Because your church partners with sister churches through CP, missionaries are able to share Jesus across the globe. Our missionaries need your prayer support this week.

In Yuma, Arizona, North American missionary DONALD VICKERS helps churches in their evangelistic and missions outreaches. Yuma is an in- creasingly diverse community with nearly a 60% Hispanic population. The churches here reflect that diversity. Pray for the churches in Yuma as they work together on discovering and engaging their community. Donald's wish list includes starting new churches, equip- ping leadership, strengthening existing congregations, and more. Across the country, your constant support through the Cooperative Program is meeting needs and putting love in action. Include Donald and the churches in Yuma in your prayers through the week.

Communicating For A Change Part 13

Raising the Need

It was mentioned last week that there are rare occasions when presentation is not important because information itself is so engaging.  This brings us to a very important communication principle.  The more interesting the topic, the easier it is to engage us with the information.

Presentation takes a backseat to information when an audience is absolutely convinced of one of the following:

1.     You are about to answer a question they've been asking

2.     Solve a mystery they have been unable to solve

3.     Resolve tension they have been unable to resolve

When an audience knows a head of time that you are going to do one of those three things they will show up interested.  They might even show up early.  So, simply put, as communicators we must manufacture interest.  We must pose a question your audiences wants answered, create a tension they need resolved, or point to a mystery they have been unable to solve.  Chance are if you don't , you will leave then standing at the station.

Where are you going with your communication?

CHURCH MINISTRY REVIEW

A Year Of New Beginnings
By: Mark Mattingly - Founder and President
WorshipConsulting.com

Every year dawns new goals, dreams and challenges.  We are past the Christmas season and it's time to take a break, and then get ready for Easter, right?  Before resting too long, consider this:  What vision has God given you for your Worship Team and church?  How do you see each member of your team developing in Christ's likeness this next year?  What goals and dreams do you have that would require more than your current abilities can produce, without God's help?  Does your vision support the vision of the overall church?  Have you communicated the vision clearly to your worship team members and can they repeat it to you?

I'm sure we all have our own specific definition of what a "vision" is but let's set it aside for a moment. Mature team members and church members desire to follow a vision that is God-honoring and bigger than can be accomplished without God's help.  Consider each worship team member having their own goals and dreams for themselves.  They may be as practical as memorizing words to songs or playing without relying on looking at the notes.  Then again, they can be as challenging as breaking away from a personal struggle with a habitual sin or letting go of an attitude that is preventing them from attaining God's best.

As you are casting the vision for your worship team members, consider challenging them in at least these 3 areas:

         Spiritually

         Musically

         Building Community

The more specific you are, the better.  You may choose to do this as a team or individually.  Make sure that your team members are stretched while also being motivated and committed to the vision.  Share with them why this is your vision for them and how it supports the vision of the overall church.

Be committed in 2011 to present a grand vision for your team and run to achieve the vision.  Inspire them.  Push them.  Challenge them.  Encourage them.  Develop them.  Return to the vision on a quarterly basis and expect God to do great things in 2011.
