MISSION EXPRESS

Making old things new - we are headed in a new direction!
The Nelle Johnson Offering was established to provide funds to enhance our serving and giving locally and to the world as an Association.
This year's offering will be used as follows:
Mission Action - Provides flexiblilty in providing assistance to Churches or individuals in need. This also allows the flexibility reach a little further in disaster relief and services that are available.
IBA Continuing Education Fund - Provides scholarship funds that benefit Northwest Pastors, Pastor's Family and Ministry Leaders to attend seminary, complete under-graduate studies, and etc.
Brochures will be available for distribution to the churches in March.
Offering Goal for 2011:
$10,000.00
This offering can be collected and turned in year round. We will also have the Associational Week with Nelle Johnson Offering as the emphasis in May.
Missionary Moments:
South of Anchorage, Alaska, in the shadow of Mt. McKinley, North American Missionary LINDA HOKIT works with churches to increase their outreach to their community. Through events and community ministries, Hokit helps churches adddress the conditions that often result in high rates of hunger, suicide, abuse, and addiction. Your participaton through the Cooperative Program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering helps provide the trans-forming hope of Jesus in our 49th state. This week, ask God to bless and empower Linda as she shares Christ with inter- national people groups in Alaska.
RAJAN is the first known Christian in his city. He came to believe more than six years ago, but never declared his faith to his family. During a family funeral, extended family began to discuss their suspicions that Rajan had become a follower of Christ. In the presence of 70 male relatives, Rajan boldly declared Christ as his Lord and Savior. Persecution began quickly. His family ostracized him, stripping away protection from physical attacks. Rajan is concerned for his wife, who is also a believer, and their children. Many believers across Centra Asia are just like Rajan. Sometimes they are fearful and timid, but sometimes they are bold. God is at work drawing men to Himself. Your love for people and commitment to the cooperative program allow missionaries to see God's Word empower believers, in spite of persecution. Please take time to pray for Rajan and his family.

LOCAL CHURCH NEWS
Greater Gresham - Our love and prayers go out to Pastor Keith Evans in the recent death of his mother in Oklahoma. Keith is in Oklahoma and will return next week.
Morning Star Baptist Church - Due to the high cost of rebuilding, the church has made the decision to sell the property of their old church site and use the dollars from the sale toward the purchase of a more affordable option. They are hoping to find an existing property in the Portland area, according the Reverend Albert Wayne Johnson, Senior Pastor. Please keep the church in your prayers. |

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TIPS

Communicating For A Change Part 12
Presentation vs. Information
How you say what you say is as important as what you say. Presentation determines your audience's attention span. There is and has been for some time now talk about how people's attention span is shorter and shorter due to the technology and options. Is that really true?
Every kid I know can sit in front of an Xbox or PS3 for hours without being distracted. Most adults lose themselves to the internet or a good book. The point is, when we are engaged, time flies. When we are not engaged, time stands still. The issue is not the span of a person's attention. The issue is our ability to capture and hold a person's attention.
Somewhere we bought into the notion that good content was all that is required to engage an audience. That is rarely the case. I say rarely because there are occasions in which information alone can capture your attention.
Think about your favorite restaurant for a moment. My guess is that they serve beef, chicken and fish. So does mine! That's amazing, we are thinking about the same restaurant! The thing that makes this place your favorite restaurant is not the animal they serve or the plant they suggest you eat with it. What makes it your favorite is the way they prepare and present the food. The same is said about communication. It's our preparation and presentation that will keep people engaged.
We need fresh presentations, not new content. Let's face it; it's always Moses who comes down from the mountain with the Ten Commandments. David kills Goliath every time. Daniel never gets eaten by the lions. John the Baptist never escapes from Herod's dungeon. Jesus is born in a stable. The stories don't change. The variable is our presentation. Two communicators can tell the same story with two completely different results. It's all in the presentation.
