A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Montessori Parents,

I see the children embarking on their extraordinary learning experience in each and every classroom. I read recently that good Montessori education is an example of "active learning" and you will find that at MCS. Thank you for your patience with the traffic jams at drop-offs and dismissals as everyone establishes their rhythm within the context of the greater community and enjoy the ride as you witness your child's journey of curiosity, independence, and accomplishment!

Montessori Children's School has had a wonderful tradition of parental involvement through the PTO, the Annual Giving, and the Auction. The PTO runs activities throughout the year to support the teachers and the education of the child as well as build community. The Annual Giving and Auction are the means by which we fund important activities and projects at the school. The Annual Giving occurs primarily in the fall and the Auction in the spring.

Many thanks to the PTO and MCS Board of Directors for hosting the Information night. If you were not able to attend, please drop by the office and add your name to a project you would like to support. The Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors is September 27th.

Final Thought:

"This is the difference between old (conventional) and new (Montessori) education. We want to help the auto-construction of man at the right time, so that mankind can go forward to something great. Society has built up walls, barriers. These the new education must cast down, revealing a free horizon. The new education is a revolution, but without violence. It is the non-violent revolution. After that, if it triumphs, violent revolution will become forever impossible."

 ~M. Montessori

Thank you for your support of the school and its mission.

Piano Newsletter for 2011-2012

Hope all of you have enjoyed the summer!  We certainly have.   Piano lessons will begin very soon.   All lessons will be 30 minutes long and will run through the month of May.  We will follow the Onslow County School calendar.  There will be no lessons on teacher workdays and holidays.  We will have a Christmas carol party in December and an end of year recital in June.  Music for the recital will need to be memorized.  The recital will be held at Swansboro United Methodist Church.  Here are the monthly fees for the school year:

$87.50 for 5 lessons a month

$70.00 for 4 lessons a month

$52.50 for 3 lessons a month

Some of you may only have 2 lessons in December depending on the day your lesson is:  $35.00

Fees are due at the first lesson of each month.  I will order the music books for your children and let you know the fee as needed.  Music books are not included in the monthly lesson fee.  Cash and checks are accepted.  All checks should be made out to Bean Family Corporation.  If your child is sick or there is a family emergency please contact me in advance at 326-1724 or 526-6641.  You can also email me at beanfamily@ec.rr.com if you have any questions.

Here are some important piano tips to follow during the school year:

1.Each individual student should set aside 15-20 minutes per day to practice the piano or keyboard.  Find a time that works best for you, your schedule and your family.   Manage your time wisely when participating in lots of extracurricular activities at different times of the year.

2.Any theory work that is assigned should be completed before the weekly lesson.

3.Memorize music by phrase or section.

4.Please feel free to ask questions at your lesson.  Intermediate and advanced students will be allowed to play various styles of music during the year.  I appreciate student input.

5.Come prepared and on time for your weekly lessons.

6.Be picked up from your lesson on time.

7.Set high expectations and you will achieve them.

I look forward to a rewarding musical year with each of you and your families.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Angie Bean
