A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Montessori Parents,

Our Montessori school includes parents as an integral part of the educational process. Indeed the commitment and participation of parents is essential to fulfilling the purpose of the school. In seeking to understand the child's needs and assist full development all adults are united in a common role.

"To recognize this great work of the child does not                   mean to diminish the parents' authority. Once they can persuade themselves           not to be themselves the builders, but to merely act as collaborators in the                 building process, they become much better able to carry out their real duties;            and then, in the light of a wider vision, their help becomes truly valuable."                (Montessori)

Parents and the school staff, in order to serve this process of the child's development, must forge a creative and supportive partnership. Montessori Children's School is a fine example of partnership between parents and educators. Whether you are providing snack, observing in a classroom, making a basket for the Mardi Gras Masquerade, or reading to your child, you are supporting the school. Thank you for fostering the development of your child's potential

Many thanks for your support of the Parent and Child night and the Ribbon Cutting at our new classroom building. We need volunteers to help clear our nature trails in the "Big Woods." Please contact me or Mr. Patterson if you would like to help.

The new Elementary phone # at the new building in my office is 910-938-0067. Please feel free to call if we can help you in any way.

All my best,

Peggy Higgins

Auction Night 2011 News

Time is flying by and the Auction is almost here! We had a meeting yesterday morning and the event is coming together nicely but we need more items to auction off. Please stop by the office and pick up a stack of donation triplicate forms. If you are planning on soliciting a business please contact Katherine Ellsworth at kaellsworth@ec.rr.com to make sure we aren't doubling up. Also, we still need our families to sign up for a basket to auction off. If you have any questions about the baskets please contact Christina Davis at cemoffitt00@gmail.com or (910) 382-3689.

Thank you,

The Auction Committee

The Pampered Chef

A Pampered Chef night is coming to the NEW Elementary Kitchens!

The NEW Elementary kitchen(s) would like some help in obtaining NEW kitchen products from The Pampered Chef. Currently, they have nothing and would like to have everything so they can start cooking soon! The teachers are busy making their "Wish Lists" to share with you on Monday. Also, each classroom in the main building (to include "Outdoor") is also making their own "Wish List" of Pampered Chef products they would like to have. This has the potential to furnish each classroom with everything they are wishing for!

You can help in several ways. First, be on the look out for your own family catalog with a "Wish List", 2 order forms and a couple of simple instructions. These will be delivered to you on Monday, February 7th at pick up carpool time. Purchase something for your own kitchen, the Elementary kitchens or one of the classrooms in the main building. Ask a friend, relative or neighbor if they would like to order also. The more we have in sales the more FREE products the school will receive. All orders with payments are due on Monday, February 14th. Orders should arrive at the school by the 24th.

On Tuesday, February 8th, Flo Hart (who has been a Pampered Chef consultant for 6 years and has had Cooking Classes with the children before) will be bringing her Pampered Chef products (based on the "Wish List") and showing the Elementary students how to use and cook with the products. The students will be preparing delicious recipes for you to sample later that evening.

You are then invited to come later that night, February 8th! Bring your friends, too. It will be an adult evening out that will be fun and food filled! It is time for the cook, non-cook, and wanna-be-cook in your home to come out to the NEW Elementary kitchen for a Pampered Chef Cooking Show. The recipes the Elementary students made earlier in the day will be provided and you will also learn how to prepare a new 30 minute main dish recipe for your family! You and your friends may order that night as well. (When you a bring a guest and that guest places an order, YOU receive a free gift from me!!)

So that the Elementary students can properly plan for you and your friends, please let us know that you will be joining us on Tuesday night. Please call the school or Flo (910-330-3631) by Monday morning, February 7th. Thank you and Happy Cooking!

Hand Washing Lesson

Over the next few weeks, we are having Dr. Tolly Garrett (Aberly and Baker's mom) give lessons in our Primary and Elementary classes on how germs spread and how to properly wash hands.  She plans to use fluorescent products, called "Germ juice" and "Germ powder", to do these demonstrations.  After the children rub it on their hands, they wash with soap and water and use a black light to check for glow in the dark "germs" they missed.  These materials are listed as being safe and non-toxic, but the manufacturer recommends not using it on open cuts or scrapes and to use caution on people with sensitive skin.  More information on the products can be found at http://www.germjuice.com.

This has been a useful demonstration in previous years, and we did not have any complaints or complications.  Each child's hands will be checked for open cuts or scrapes before the demonstration, and those who wish not to apply the liquid can help with the "checking" process so that they will still benefit from the lesson.

For more information and If for any reason you would not like your child to participate please follow the link bellow, print out the refusal slip, and turn it into the office.
