International Night

Dear Parents,

Our annual International Night is coming up fast!  This fun-filled night is going to be held Thursday, October 21st from 5:30-7:30pm.  This will be a fun night for all to celebrate different cultures, try different foods, enjoy each other's company and to enjoy being outdoors.

There will be a parade and your child can dress up in an outfit that is from their country of choice.  The school has some costumes for you to borrow.   All classes are invited to attend this exciting night.  The stepping stones class will have the opportunity to march in the parade with their parents.

Each family should bring a dish from a different country.  The food does not necessarily have to come from the country that your child is representing.  Please label your food containers and serving utensils (we will not be providing serving utensils), so that we may return them to you if necessary.  Another good option to consider for this night is a disposable serving dish.  Also, there is a sign up sheet currently in the front office where you can sign up for your child's country, the dish you are bringing and if you are able to volunteer to help make this night a success.  Please let us know what you are bringing so we do not wind up with too much of a good thing.  We are currently looking for people to help with set up, take down, and right now especially during the event.  Set up volunteers should arrive at 4pm on the day of the event to set up.  Clean-up volunteers will start at 7:15 and should be finished by 7:45 pm.  There will be a list of tasks supplied to each volunteer at the start of their shifts.  These tasks will include things such as setting up/taking down tables, picking up trash, directing parking, and directing parents where to put their dishes.

This year we are trying a new way to cut down on waiting in line for dinner.  We will be separating all dishes by their continent of origin.  So please label accordingly.  Also, be sure to let the helpers in the car-pool line that evening know as well.  North and South American dishes will be served in the pavilion; dishes from Asia and Africa will be served in the Toddler/Stepping Stones area; and dishes from Europe, Australia and Antarctica will be served in the Primary Area (South Door).

Picnic tables are available on the Primary playground, but many parents have brought blankets or chairs to use on the ground in the past.

You may contact the front office or Keri Gernand at kerileigh@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like to volunteer for the evening.

Thank you for all you do to make MCS the special place that it is!  We know that with your help International Night will be a huge success!

Thank you,

Keri Gernand

International Night Chairperson

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Parents,

International Night is a favorite event for students and parents alike. Next Thursday when you arrive at school between the times of 5pm and 5:20pm we ask you to drive through the carpool line and drop off the students. The students will go to their classroom (Elementary students to the Pavilion) and prepare for the parade. We will have volunteers take your covered dish to the appropriate table. Then the parents can park along White Oak or Bates St. and return to the outdoor environment to find a place to view the parade. At 5:30 the Parade of Nations will follow the pathways from the front gate, under the pergola and around the orchard circle, ending at the games area.

Following the parade we invite you to enjoy the International Feast. This year we will have the dinner organized by Continents. Food from North and South America will be set out in the pavilion. Food from Asia and Africa will be in the Stepping Stones area. Europe, Australia and Antarctica will be in the Primary area. So, choose a continent to start your eating experience. Bottled water will be in coolers near the cistern. We hope this plan will eliminate long lines. I would like to thank Keri Gernand for all of her hard work as the Chairperson for this great evening!

Please feel free to call with any questions. I look forward to seeing you.
