PTO NEWS

May 22nd - MCS Yard Sale
The 1st annual MCS
yard sale is just around the corner! We are still in need of items that
you or your family does not need, want or fit into anymore. Yes, that
goes for the adults too! A wonderful parent left a bag for the yard sale
under the chalk board, it's as easy as that! The PTO has a storage
facility, so anytime you want to drop your items off at the school we will pick
them up. The location for the sale is the Jacksonville High School. So, rain or shine the
yard sale will happen.
PTO - New Beginnings
Every year the PTO gains wonderful parents and
looses them also. This year our President-Nina, Vice President-April and
Secretary-Rewa will all be moving. What this means to us is new ideas,
new parents and a great way to get involved. Please keep this in
mind: If you are interested in a fun way to get involved with your child's
school, all positions will be needed next school year. We will hand out
ballots at the beginning of school year and allow voting to commence. If you are interested please contact me. We will include descriptions of each position in a later messenger. Thank you for your interest! Thank you, Valerie Tuton vjw3681@yahoo.com

A Letter from the Head of School
Dear Parents,
Happy Earth Day! Perhaps the most central theme that ties together Montessori theories is her respect for nature. Of course, she believed education must follow and meet the needs of the child's natural development. Montessori teaches us that pushing children into growing up is no more realistic than one trying to hurry a flower into blooming.
Montessori believed nature itself should be a source of inspiration for learning. We see children's fascination with nature. At Montessori School we see the outside world as the perfect classroom. We are shaping the child's concept of the out-of-doors. We want to increase the child's sensorial awareness to natural objects.
"Set the children free, let them have fair play, let them run out when it is raining, take off their shoes when they find pools of water, and when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew let them run about with bare feet and trample on it; let them rest quietly when the tree invites them to sleep in its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them up in the morning, as it wakes up every other living creature which divides its day between waking and sleeping." - Excerpted from Discovery of the Child, by Maria Montessori
Many thanks to Mr. Patterson and Mr. Addams for maximizing our Earth Day experience this year. Of course, all of the Directresses joined in and expanded on the celebration. The Upper Elementary enjoyed coming to Bates Street campus for a day in the woods. They are anxiously awaiting their new classroom building that will afford them the pleasure of spending every school day in the woods.
Enjoy your beautiful Spring weekend and I hope to see some of you at the free concert on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Kenan Auditorium in Wilmington on the campus of UNC-Wilmington. Peggy Higgins |

Fundraising with Patron Software Workshop
The future is Now!
We will be holding a workshop on May 7th from 12-2pm (Lunch included) at the Chamber of Commerce. The workshop will be presented by Joanne Riesz and Jenny Romanelli the founders of Patron Software. Patron software is a tool to streamline our fundraising efforts by tracking volunteers, donors, running reports, and many other applications.
This is a very exciting time for Montessori, so please sign up in the office and get ready to be amazed! |

week, in celebration of Earth Day, the children have been busy planting trees

knew this because they probably came home with dirty hands! We would like to keep "growing" with this

school. So as you are at the plant
nurseries, or Lowes or Home Depot working on your own home-improvement
projects, we hope you will consider making a few purchases for the school on
behalf of your children!

Last Call for Summer Class Registration!!!
What
classes would you participate in if we could offer each class for $100.
We are not trying to make a profit. We are simply trying to cover our
cost. If we had more students sign up for classes we could reduce the
cost. We will be e-mailing the registration form following this newsletter. Please mark the e-mailed form and return it to the office by Wednesday, April 28th and I will tabulate the interest and inform you of the possibilities. We will have extra copies in the office. Thank you for your patience.
