1st Annual MCS 5K Run

Dear Montessori Families,
This coming fall my husband Matt and I are planning a 5k run and fundraiser for the school.  We are in the beginning stages of planning and wanted to see if anyone else would be interested in assisting us?  We have some great ideas in the works and plan on putting together some training programs for the elementary students before summer break.  If you are interested in helping please contact Courtney McDonald at courtneyraern@hotmail.com
or at 910-219-1954.

Thank you and Happy Running!!!

Earth Day Celebration

Greetings from the Chameleon Pavilion!

Mr. Patterson and Mr. Addams have been having such a wonderful experience this second half of the year. Our focus has been on beach habitat, tidal zones, coastal animals, and the components of North Carolina Sand.  As April approaches, so does Earth Day! This year, we will be celebrating Earth Day with our own Earth Week.  This will include many fun activities for the school to enjoy.  Mr. Patterson and Mr. Addams do ask for each child to bring a plain white t-shirt by Monday, April 19th for the purpose of making Earth Day Tye-dye shirts!  We appreciate all of the support and thank you for the great comments regarding our inaugural year.  Please stop by anytime if you haven't seen the classroom!

Thank you,

Bob Patterson & Jason Addams

A Special Request!

If any parent would like to donate a 1 year subscription to "Your Big Back Yard" for the E.E. Classroom please see Mr. Addams.

A Letter from the Head of School

Dear Parents,

Happy Spring!  Spring is always such a time of renewal. The flowers bloom, the birds hatch, and the temperatures rise to comfortable levels. We see the children show the same signs of coming into their own fullness of beauty. They emerge into new levels of understanding. They find comfort with concepts they have been practicing diligently.

Maria Montessori spoke about the "normalized" child. The "normalized child is able to function appropriately in the environment and this results in a well-balanced child capable of achieving her goals. Some characteristics of the "normalized" child are...

1.      Shows self-discipline

2.      Demonstrates concentration

3.      Acts independently

4.      Is self-motivated

5.      Enjoyment of repetition

6.      Pleasure found in work

7.      No need for external rewards

8.      Prefers work to play

9.      Love of learning

Thank you for returning your re-enrollment. We are interviewing new families who would like to join our school. Each family is asked to examine the philosophy of Dr. Montessori and to review our Parent Handbook before committing to a relationship with the school. The family comes for a tour and then returns for a classroom observation and an interview with their child and a classroom Directress. We have all of these steps to help the family determine their synchronicity with the way of life at MCS. Any family deserves to have their child in a school setting that they trust and support. We at MCS take this trust that you place in us very seriously. Every decision we make has your child's emotional, physical, social and intellectual growth in mind.

Thank you for the trust and support that you extend to your child and to all of us at Montessori School. Enjoy your Spring holiday!

 "Quote of the Week"

"Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment."
