A Letter From the Head of School

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your family enjoyed your holiday vacation. All of the staff members came back with a sense of renewal. The students came back ready to work. The second semester at Montessori School is always so productive. All the groundwork that was laid in the Fall permits us to go forward at a new pace and a new level of understanding.

We are always so gratefulfor the volunteer efforts that are an important ingredient for the success of Montessori Children's School.  The level of generosity continues to become greater and greater.  We appreciate your attention to the many needs of the school and the help you give through your participation in PTO, Board of Directors, Greenspace project and classroom support. Of course, we also appreciate the monetary support. I told you about the parent who came in before the holidays with a check for $5000.00. When we returned to school after the holidays we received a check for $20,000.00 and another check for $10,000.00. Thank you to all these anonymous donors!

Thank you for the part you play in the support of the school, the staff, the students and the future of the building projects. We are so fortunate!

Happy New Year,

Peggy Higgins

Elementary News

The Lower Elementary is so excited for the New Year.  The class raised over $200 for the Outerbanks Wildlife Society as a holiday fundraiser to give back to the community.  Starting the New Year the first and second years are learning the art of cursive writing and the whole class is studying the timeline of Humans.  Mid-month the class will begin a lesson on civil rights and its history.  The Lower Elementary class is working extremely hard and looks forward to the months ahead.

The Upper Elementary has come back from the break rejuvenated and excited.  They are starting new lessons which span all areas of learning.  These include, simple machines, explorers and settlements, elements and the periodic table, biological classification, and computer applications.  The Upper Elementary will also re-open the Upper Bakery this Tuesday morning during carpool.  The class is running full steam ahead and is excited about the New Year.

Auction News

The gracious parents of the Montessori Children's School are always extremely generous about giving of themselves so the PTO has decided to give back.  Montessori PTO is going to sponsor a billboard for the 3rd annual auction fundraiser.  How exciting is that!  We will see our school auction advertised on a billboard located between Jacksonville and Swansboro.  So look for the billboard coming around the 1st week in February!  Please keep working on your donations and sponsorships.  Your hard work is so important to make this a successful auction. So, go have fun and start asking around.  You never know who is connected to who.

 Thank you,
The PTO

A special Thanks

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Barnes & Noble Book Fair.  We raised over $400.00.  Also a very Special thanks to April Moon for taking the reins and leading the Fundraiser.

Auction Update

Auction time is approaching.  Please help us with the family basket preparation by choosing your theme by next Wednesday Jan.13th.  An auction representative will be at carpool to write down your theme.  The baskets themselves will be due Feb. 24th; There is still a few weeks to take advantage of some great local sales.  Also, there is an example of a "Lobster Boil Basket" in the front office; the "basket" is actually a large enamel pot, a creative option instead of a basket.  These baskets are as wonderful and individual as our families.  We can hardly wait to see your ideas.

We would also like to thank two more restuarants for their wonderful generosity:
Buetiful delecious cakes from American Dreamcakes and specacular seafood from Red Lobster.
