 Indo-Persian Helmet

This Indo-Persian war helmet, known as Kulah Khud in Persia
(modern-day Iran), is made of steel.  The helmet is etched in a "Tree of Life" pattern around the skull along with calligraphy and spiral decorations.  There is inlaid gold throughout the skull and the sliding nose guard.  Chain mail surrounds 80% of the base that would have helped protect the neck.  It includes a large top spike and twin plume holders. Produced in Persia  these helmets were used by military forces for both combative and ceremonial purposes throughout the region,
including the Mughals in pre-British India. This style of helmet dates back to the 1300's.

Greetings!

As summer is approaching, we have some exciting opportunities for you and your family!  Join us at the free Family Fun Day at the Phoenix Fire Museum!  Also the Museum will be hosting Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Summer Daycamp honoring the legacy of George Washington Carver as seen in the exhibit.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Summer Daycamp

Junkids recyclinge 21-25, 9am-1pm, for kids age 8-11

The Museum of Mobile will have a wonderful day camp this summer in conjunction with the George Washington Carver exhibit.  Did you know that Dr. Carver was the original "green" man;  long before green was anything more than a crayon color?  We will spend the week learning how to carry on his legacy at Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Summer Daycamp at the Museum of Mobile. The camp runs from 9 am to 1 pm, June 21st through 25th.  The camp will be a fun learning experience for children ages 8 to 11. The cost is $75.00 per child.

Help your child become environmentally conscious by enrolling them in our summer daycamp.  The program involves easy activities and projects that will encourage children to take an active role as stewards of the earth.   We will learn about reducing waste through composting, recycling, and reusing waste materials;  try organic gardening; do easy crafts that turn trash into treasure and much more!  Space is limited, so please register by June 14.   For more information or to enroll your child, please call (251) 208-7723.   The Museum of Mobile is located in historic downtown at 111 South Royal St.
Free Family Fun Day at the Phoenix Fire Museum
Thursday, June 10th, 9am - 1pm      1008
The Museum of Mobile and the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department invite you to step back in history at Family Fun Day at the Phoenix Fire Museum.  Learn fire safety from Mobile Firefighters and enjoy lots of fun activities we have planned for you and your family.

Refreshments will be served, and you and your children can dress up in firefighting gear and explore the fire trucks! Bring out your competitive side with our coloring contest and bucket relay for a chance to win prizes.  Practice your firefighting skills by putting out a mock fire, then cool off by running through the sprinklers (don't forget to bring a change of clothes).  If you are feeling particularly bold, you can get a (temporary) Phoenix Firehouse tattoo!1008

The free Family Fun Day will be held at the Phoenix Fire Museum, 203 South Claiborne Street.  The event is open to the public, but groups of ten or more must make reservations.  For more information or to make a reservation,  please call 208-7723.
