Shook Wins First OSU Project! We are ecstatic to be working with The Ohio State University (OSU) on their East Regional Chilled Water Plant (ERCWP), scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2014. The project will be constructed within the Academic Core North (ACN) area of campus. The ultimate capacity of the facility will provide approximately 15,000 tons of chilled water capacity and satisfy standby chiller requirements of at least one independent backup component for each system component (N+1). Another integral part of the project is how the chilled water gets delivered to the various ACN facilities. A new tunnel will be constructed from the ERCWP to College Road. Existing utility services to the surrounding buildings must be maintained throughout all construction activities. Because of the other construction projects taking place within the ACN area, close coordination with those respective project teams and construction schedules is crucial. Through it all, the safety of the students, visitors, OSU staff and construction personnel is of the utmost importance! Our project team includes Eric Doench and Frank Spencer. Eric and Frank worked together on a nearly identical project for the University of Cincinnati, which made them the natural choice for this project. The project originally was set under the Owner Agency Construction Management delivery system. But because of the newly enacted Ohio legislation allowing public owners to choose alternate delivery methods, OSU decided to re-advertise under the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) delivery system. OSU is the one of the driving forces behind the passage of the new legislation and is excited to test out the new delivery systems. That excitement coupled with Shook's expertise with CMAR and chilled water plants guarantees a successful and exciting project!
