The Episcopal Diocese of Newark
Job Opening:
Director of Fund Development
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
As a concrete response to the challenge to keep our vision on the abundance of God's promise, at the recommendation of the Fund Development Committee and with the support of Diocesan Council, the Diocese of Newark is seeking to hire a Director of Fund Development.

This position is a revisioning of the previously advertised Stewardship Officer position. Stewardship efforts will be divided between congregational stewardship, under the province of the CFO, and other stewardship efforts which will include planned giving, major donors, capital campaigns and the like.

This position will be funded outside the budget - for the first year using funds from the New Ministry Initiatives Fund (created with a portion of the sale proceeds of three properties) and some of the income from the Bishop's Supplementary Funds. The expectation is that in future years, after a funding stream is established, it will pay for itself, as is standard for all development positions.

Job Title:
Director of Fund Development

Job Description:
The Director of Fund Development will lead the effort in the Diocese of Newark to provide financial resources that will equip congregations and the diocese to carry out its mission. Working with the Bishop, the Stewardship Commission and the CFO, they will cultivate major donors; coordinate planned giving efforts in congregations; provide fundraising support for special funds; write grant requests; and help to develop ongoing financial stewardship efforts. The Director of Fund Development will be a member of the diocesan Leadership Team.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree, minimum
  • 5 years of fundraising experience
  • Secular fundraising experience preferred, with membership in a recognized professional association such as Association of Fundraising Professionals
