The Woodstock of Science:
Inaugural USA Science Festival to descend on the Washington D.C. area in the Fall of 2010 Will you be there when science takes over the nation's capital? The Inaugural USA Science Festival will be the country's first national science festival and will descend on the Washington, D.C. area in the Fall of 2010. The Festival promises to be the ultimate multi-cultural, multi-generational and multi-disciplinary celebration of science in the United States. The culmination of the Festival will be an Expo in the heart of Washington, D.C. that will give over 500 science organizations from all over the country the opportunity to present themselves with a hands-on, fun science activity to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Building on the huge success of the Inaugural San Diego Science Festival earlier this year, Larry Bock and his team have partnered with several financial backers (soon to be announced) to create the largest celebration of science in the United States. Join the current list of over 100 of the nation's leading government labs, federal agencies, informal science outreach organizations, universities, and high tech and life science companies when science takes over the nation's capital. |

Venter Institute signs on as Official Partner of the USA Science Festival
We are thrilled to have the J. Craig Venter Institute, the nation's leader in genomics research, sign on as one of the first official partners of the Inaugural USA Science Festival.
"Our participation in the San Diego Science Festival was such a success that we wouldn't miss the opportunity to be part of the Inaugural USA Science Festival. The goal of our DiscoverGenomics! Science Education Program is to encourage students to explore the wonder and potential of the natural world, to consider science as a potential career, and to understand how scientific concepts apply to everyday life - it makes us a natural partner for the USA Science Festival" says Lisa McDonald, who heads the Institute's education efforts.
The Institute's exhibit is titled From Seawater to Sewage and shows us how pioneering genomic sciences is being used to explore new biologically-driven sources of energy and to uncover novel ways to mitigate our negative impact on the planet.
J. Craig Venter, the founder, president and chairman of the Venter Institute, and a member of the USA Science Festival Advisory Board, was just named a recipient of this year's National Medal of Science. Dr. Venter will be awarded the Medal from President Obama on October 7 at a White House ceremony. Congratulations! |
