sheepskin jackets, and handmade 18k gold jewelry to the states for the fall of
2009. All of Shompole Collection's piece are made in Africa, by Africans,
promoting self-sustaining income to local artisans and creating a luxury market
in Kenya. Noted pieces which stand out in this year's collection are a series
of small 18k gold African masks which can be worn either as pins or pendants
and are encrusted with diamonds and rubies, Antique Ethiopian bone warrior
pendants with heavy gold casing, cow horn cuffs embedded with gold, topaz and
garnet, large traditional West African solid gold earrings inspired by the arts
of the Ashante kingdom, sheepskin jackets embellished with vintage
African coins and brass medallions, and suede pashminas with leather applique.
Each one-of-a-kind piece is made by hand and inspired by a theme of wilderness,
power and African nobility.
