| THE COLOR TEST - SLOWING ALZHEIMER |
|
A brain waker-upper for today!
These are the things we're supposed to do to remove the cholesterol around our brain and try to slow up Alzheimer's Disease.
It took me 2 times before I could finally tell this brain of mine to concentrate. A great test, do it until you get 100%!
Bet you can't get 100% on the first try! But I'm rootin' for you. This is pretty neat! See how you do with the colors!
It takes an average of 5 tries to get to 100%. Follow the directions! It's harder than it seems, as it should be!
Have fun!!!

| DIABETES DRUG KILLS CANCER CELLS |
SOURCE: Cancer Research, September 14, 2009
(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- In a one-two punch, combining a familiar diabetes drug with chemotherapy reduced tumors faster and prolonged remission in mice longer than chemotherapy alone, apparently by targeting cancer stem cells, reported Harvard Medical School (HMS) researchers. "We have found a compound selective for cancer stem cells," senior author Kevin Struhl, the David Wesley Gaiser professor of biological chemistry and molecular pharmacology at HMS, was quoted as saying. "What's different is that ours is a first-line diabetes drug."
The findings add to a growing body of preliminary evidence in cells, mice, and people that metformin may improve breast cancer outcomes in people. In this study, the diabetes drug seemed to work independently of its ability to improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar and insulin levels, all of which are associated with better breast cancer outcomes.

| DEPRESSION INCREASE CANCER DEATH |
(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Depression can affect a cancer patient's likelihood of survival, according to a new study that highlights the need for systematic screening of psychological distress and subsequent treatment.
To determine the effects of depression on cancer patients' disease progression and survival, Jillian Satin, MA, of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and colleagues analyzed 26 studies, with a total of 9,417 patients, which examined the effects of depression on patients' cancer progression and survival. "We found an increased risk of death in patients who report more depressive symptoms than others and also in patients who have been diagnosed with a depressive disorder compared to patients who have not," Satin was quoted as saying.
In the combined studies, the death rates were up to 25 percent higher in patients experiencing depressive symptoms and 39 percent higher in patients diagnosed with major or minor depression. The increased risks remained even after considering patients' other clinical characteristics that might affect survival, indicating that depression may actually play a part in shortening survival.
The authors said, however, that additional research is needed before any conclusions can be reached. The authors added that their analysis combined results across different tumor types, so future studies should look at the effects of depression on different kinds of cancer.
The researchers did not find a clear association between depression and cancer progression. They noted that the actual risk of death associated with depression in cancer patients is still small, so patients should not feel that they must maintain a positive attitude to beat their disease. Nevertheless, the study indicates that it is important for physicians to regularly screen cancer patients for depression and to provide appropriate treatment. SOURCE: Cancer, November 15, 2009

| DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH? |
Rather than discussing healthcare, perhaps we should be discussing "do you care about health?"
I rather wrap myself in this primal yelling match between Republicans and Democrats in the middle and discuss the moral and ethical issue thus far left out of this raging national debate on healthcare.
The Republicans have been usurped by the radical fringe of the party, those who are obstructionist, who can certainly march and yell, yet lack the basic apparatus of listening. Another words, they lack ears. Those on the left, aren't so primal and have the bully pulpit of the Presidency, but also lack the foresight and wisdom of philosophy, and are splintered by the Progressives who want "Health Options" or nothing at all, and are willing to throw the baby out with the bath water.
When we look at healthcare, we're really looking at reactive healthcare as practiced in this culture. Its nothing short of "Greed-care" for those in the industry to make as much money off the sick and diseased as possible. This is not healthcare. It is greed-care.
Lets go back a few centuries and look at the Declaration of Independence, where we see the first American phrase of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" as interpreted by Thomas Jefferson, who himself based the phrase on the English philosopher John Locke.
Then there was the Virginia Declaration of Rights written by George Mason in 1776 who wrote "that all men are by nature equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights including pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety."
Here is where all men of righteous mindful mentality of the day were using abstract code by using the phase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and/or "safety" as code for health. Another words, our forefathers in effect were saying "all men by nature are equally free and independent and have certain inherent rights to the care of their health and safety and are defining health and safety in redefining individual happiness, for without one's health, there can be no happiness.
Thus "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Health" was actually what was meant by our forefathers. If those were in fact, the words used then, we wouldn't be having this argument today. Most societies understood this meaning that health and happiness are one in the same and provide basic health security from cradle to grave for their citizens.
We're the only Western society that doesn't understand the really true meaning of "happiness." No one can tell me that someone with cancer is truly happy. We're talking core values of happiness and health here. There is a moral issue in valuing citizen-care, and every American should be a valued citizen from cradle to grave and Congress should begin looking at the moral issues owed to every American born to a free America: the inherited right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of a healthy and happy American" | |
