New Releases:
2009 Chardonnay
Crisp and bright, this dry Chardonnay was aged in stainless steel to preserve it's elegant fruitiness.  Notes of banana, citrus and tropical fruit lead to a green apple finish.  Try it with seafood, poultry and light vegetarian dishes.  $15

Winemakers Notes:

This month our vines are resting very comfortably under the knee deep snow that sort of crept up on us.  We did not receive any of the big dumps that hit the coast (NY, Philadelphia, DC, etc.) but we did get almost daily 2 to 3 inch "flurry" sort of weather and one "14 incher".  And, it never melted between snow events....so now WOW, we have a LOT of snow.

People ask what is happing to our poor vines with all this snow. Well, the mature vines love it.  It protects them from temperature variations and any potential cold snaps. They are resting very comfortably.  We are a bit concerned for the new vines we planted last spring.  Mice also love the nice cover of snow and they tunnel among the tender new shoots and nibble.  As long as the snow remains they just nibble and nibble.  We won't know the extent of their nibbling until the snow melts.

We plan on starting our winter pruning this month.  We may have to outfit our team with snow shoes and spats to enable us to navagate among the vines.  We really want to get out there asap so we can finish by April and we've got a lot of canes to snip between now and then.  If you are in the area when we're pruning, you are welcome to come out and watch, take a snip or two, shoot the cool breeze, but bring your snowshoes.
