Mobile Device Update
|

|
With the ever changing world of technology and new models of mobile phones hitting the market on a regular basis, the Futura team is unfortunately unable to recommend any particular phones for our clients to consider.
Personal preferences, regional use locations, and individual service provider contracts, coverage, and accessibility all play a large part with the options you may need to consider.
In general, the phones which utilize a Windows Mobile operating system are the most widely supported for the different applications used for mobile connections for phones to database servers containing your Futura software.
There is currently limited support for our ASP hosted clients for the IPhone.
And, at the current time, there is no support for the operating systems for Blackberry, Android, or Symbian/Epoch.
If you are interested in attempting to utilize a mobile phone to access your Futura data, we highly encourage you to discuss your specific needs and server network access details with our Technical Support team before purchasing any new phones to avoid any possible incompatible hardware expenses.
With that said, accessing your Futura data with a laptop utilizing a remote connection will not pose a problem for our clients.
With the reduced size and weight of many portable pc's on the market now, they offer a very viable option for working on the go.

Greetings!
As many businesses continue to identify the need for their staff to work outside of a brick-and-mortar office setting, the stumbling block is still often how to have access to necessary information and maintain vital communication flow with others.
No matter what type of services you may provide, the real questions continue to be "How can I do that?" and "What do I need to get started?"
In this month's issue, you'll find some things to consider that you may have already thought about as well as others that may be new ideas.
Ultimately, the decision and application that works for you and your operation may be completely different than that of another organization. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Take what you can use and expand on it from there.
Good Luck!

Where Is Your Office?
Haven't you always heard that one of the first priorities for a business is "Location, Location, Location"?

Well, on a recent hunting trip with friends to Washington State, Terry Long from Futura found that with her cell phone, a 8.9"/2.2 pound netbook, and reliable wireless service from Verizon, she could accomplish many of the same tasks necessary for her responsibilities from a folding chair sitting outside an RV. All while enjoying an amazing view.

OK, so not everyone can complete their workload in this manner, but you get the point we're trying to make. No matter the size of your organization, many O&P and DME facility staff members must leave their office location to see a patient and provide services. Whether the location you're traveling to is a hospital, nursing home, physician's office, or a patient's home. It has become more and more a part of doing business. Whether you deploy your Futura software on your own server or utilize Futura's hosted option to have it stored on our server farm, remote connections allow you to access your data in a secure manner. All this without running the risk of violating HIPAA regulations concerning patient information because nothing will be saved on the laptop hard drive itself that could be accessed by an unauthorized person. And you could consider eliminating all of that paper you're carrying around with sensitive patient information on it. Anything could happen with it that could put you and your organization in a difficult situation if it should be mishandled or fall into the wrong hands. And for those owners and managers who often express that they find it difficult to be away from the office and out of communication, this option could provide an alternative for you. And possibly address some of your concerns. We'll leave you with this to consider: (Please Note: The author of this article did not get to go on the trip with her either. Maybe next time....someplace warmer please.) |
Did You Know ?
If you have your Futura software deployed on your own server, your local IT representative can set up a remote connection to allow you to sign onto your server and access the data just as if you were in your office. The most common types of connections used are Terminal Services or Windows Remote Desktop. Which one your IT company recommends will often depend upon your network configuration, but if they should have any questions or concerns, our Technical Support staff is available to assist them. Otherwise, this type of connection does not involve a change in your Futura software or incur any additional charges from Futura for you. Nor, generally, does it need our staff to be involved for it to be setup. Again, however, if you should have problems with functionality, please contact our team for assistance. |
