Seek Out Vital Information
|

|
There are many resources available for important and timely information that could be helpful to you and your staff.
However, one of the most noticeable changes over the years is that the responsibility for seeking out the information is now on the shoulders of the individual facility.
Routinely visit different websites for news on important coding and billing information or industry news that could affect you. Insurance carriers, Medicare carriers, CMS, Medicaid programs, AOPA, and AAOP are a few sites to consider.
Many times now, if information is posted on a website, it satisfies the legal obligation for notification to providers. Actual mailing of hardcopy information is happening less and less.
Seek out and sign up for any and all email bulletins and newsletters that you can find. You may receive a piece of news more than once, but better than not at all.
It may also mean that you have to wade through some information that doesn't affect you, but that "one small piece" could mean a world of headaches and lost revenue if you don't find out about it before it goes into effect.
Take a little extra time and be proactive to stay on top of the changes that continue to affect healthcare providers.

Additional Resources: Take Advantage Of Them

Greetings!
The Futura team would like to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful clients who stopped by the booth at the recent AOPA National Meeting in Seattle. It was a pleasure seeing and speaking with so many of you who made the trip out to the Northwest.
There were many presentations involving administrative and billing issues during the show as well as all of the ideas and possibilities presented in the "Ideal Office of the Future" display.
Please be assured that we are continuing to follow up on the questions and issues that were posed to us during the show as well.
Sincerely,
Terry Long Tami Jones

Required Service Line Modifiers Continue to Increase
Effective January 1, 2009,
the KE modifier became required for supplies and accessories used with
both competitively bid and non-competitively bid items. Because of the
addition of the KE modifier, claims now frequently require more than
four modifiers. A recent billing reminder bulletin from MAC Jurisdiction B carrier, National Government Services, outlined the following information to consider when submitting claims. When
more than four modifiers are required on a claim line suppliers should
append the 99 modifier in the fourth two-digit position. If the item
requires a pricing modifier NU, RR, or UE along with the KE pricing
modifier, the NU, RR or UE modifier should be placed in the first
position following the HCPCS code and the KE modifier should be placed
in the second position. If the item also requires a capped rental
modifier (KH, KI, KJ, KR, MS, BR, BP or BU), it would be placed in the
third position followed by any subsequent informational modifiers (RT,
LT, RA, RB, GA, etc.). If the item requires a KX modifier we suggest
the KX modifier be placed on the claim line. However, if the claim
line necessitates the use of more than four modifiers, the 99 modifier
must be placed in the fourth two-digit position. Suppliers should then
list all of
the modifiers in Item 19 for hardcopy claims or in the NTE segment for
electronic claims. The modifiers should be listed first before any
other narrative information and should not include any spaces. For
additional information concerning HCPCS modifiers suppliers should
refer to the Jurisdiction B DME MAC Supplier Manual, Chapter 14 which
can be located on the National Government Services Web site at: http://www.ngsmedicare.com/ngsmedicare/DMEMAC/EducationandSupport/ ToolsandMaterials/SupManual/chapter14.aspx.Although this bulletin was issued by NGS, all jurisdictions should be requiring claims submission in a similar manner. Futura encourages all clients to review claim submission requirements on their assigned carrier's website for further clarification. If you should have any questions or concerns about how to input the modifier information into the Futura software or feel that the claim information may not be electronically transmitting to CEDI properly, please contact our Technical Support team for further review and assistance. |
Did You Know ?
The Futura website can also be an important source of information for our clients and we always encourage regular visits. Although we are striving to improve and expand our lines of communication, the website will remain the primary manner in which we will continue to post information updates. On the homepage, you will always find a link to a "Current Downloads" section. This section may include a number of different items or files that could be necessary for your office. And always of high interest, the "Current Downloads" section is where you will find when a new Medicare Fee Schedule is available and the instructions on how to properly import your state schedule into your Futura software database so that you can update the fees associated to HCPC codes in your system. On the bottom of the homepage of our site, you will find a new link to the Archive Page for our newsletters as well as a Sign Up box for our newsletter in case any other staff members in your office would like to join our mailing list. Access to the complete .pdf version of the Futura User Guide and various other instructional documents within the "Support" section will require an Online User Account and password. It is a very simple process for existing clients to create a new account if you have not already done so. If you should have any further questions or need any assistance with accessing our website, please contact our Technical Support team. |
