News from ET August 13,  2010
Coach Joe
Hello Friends,

WOW!  It's been an amazing and super busy summer season for ET.

We've been training, racing and having fun in some of the most extreme conditions in recent years.  ET athletes and friends have been sighted at 5K to 70.3 Ironman races across the US, at the annual ET Family Picnic, at several ET Youth training camps, at our ET Summer Camp in Madison, and at almost one hundred ET group workouts or classes this summer.  It's been a fantastic summer for Team ET!

Even though the 2010 season is not yet finished, we are busy planning out and kicking off programs for the Fall/Winter off-season.  First up is our very popular ET Masters Swim Classes at LifeStart Central Park.  See below for details on our expanded 2010-2011 program.

If we can help you achieve your dreams, just let us know!

Thank you for your continued support of EXPERIENCETriathlon!

"ET Bike Clubbers are super nice. The riders made me feel welcome right away and the coaches were super helpful. They had route maps and made sure that nobody was dropped or left out on the road. They even stopped and did an impromptu tire changing clinic right on the side of the road when one of the riders got a flat. I enjoyed the whole experience and plan to come back every week."

Paul at evergreenAll In The Family
  by Paul W.

Eighteen months ago, my daughter, Sarah, challenged me to join her in a triathlon.  "You can do it, Dad, you are in good shape and have been biking for many years.  We can encourage each other, and it will be fun to do this together."

I had been biking, but could hardly swim and had not run at all in almost 25 years.  Anyway, I was game for this, so long as the swim portion was a reasonable distance.  We selected the Evergreen Triathlon in the Bloomington-Normal, IL area for July, 2009.  As I lived in West Virginia, Sarah and I would be encouraging each other via telephone and email - no joint workouts.

Shortly after her challenge, she took a Master's Swim class, met coaches Joe and Suzy, and determined she could use their help.  Suzy became her coach, and Sarah took off.  Meanwhile, I slugged along, started running on our treadmill and joined a health club to swim.  Biking was fine, running was slow - I could manage 12 minute miles for a couple miles if I had not tired myself out with biking first.  But swimming was a challenge.  I could not do more than two laps in freestyle without getting so tired I had to stop and rest.  Side stroke in the pool was workable, so I thought I could manage the distance in that manner.  Overall, I thought I was in fairly good shape.

"ET Masters has been an amazing help to me with my swim technique...every time I swam Masters Class, the coaches were able to pinpoint one particular area for me to work on, and with those minor changes and their encouragement, I was able to take my swim to a whole new level! Thank you, ET!!"

Great Job, Coach Suzy!

Thank you, Michelle and Sarah, for taking the time to share your feedback.

"Dear Coach Suzy, I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing work with my son, Evan. He is like a new person since working with you. He is more active, working out, paying attention to what he eats, and losing weight. I could not have asked for more. You inspired Evan to live a healthy lifestyle and become all that he can be. He's so proud to tell everyone that you are his coach. You have become an integral part of his life and his success story. Again, thank you for all your hard work and your personal caring touch. You are a gift, and I'm so happy that we found you!" - Michelle H.

"I don't consider myself to be an easy athlete to work with, as I'm pretty detailed-oriented, and will get pretty fixated or focused on a particular area to work on at any given point in time....this being said, Coach Suzy has been the most amazing coach for me, always willing to help me find my solution, and improve my performance while doing so. She has helped me remember that triathlon is FUN, and not just about the competition! She has helped me keep my head on straight, and gotten me through some frustrating periods, always keeping a positive and energetic spin on things. And she has encouraged me to be the very best I can be, celebrating alongside me when I've had those really cool "highs" that come after a good workout, or a good race. She is so much more than just a coach--she is a mentor, and a friend, and I can't possibly thank her enough for the huge impact she has had in my life. I just love this sport, and I know without any shadow of a doubt that this is in large part to having Suzy as my coach! I love ya, Suzy!" - Sarah F.
