News from ET |
March 5, 2010 |
Hello Friends, Spring is in the air and we are all excited to get outside for training and racing. I hope that your workouts are going extremely well. ET classes, events and coaching services are off to a great start in 2010. The ET Indoor Triathlon at Central Park is rapidly approaching and we are working to schedule another indoor triathlon in the May timeframe. Classes for swim, bike and run are at near capacity but we do have a few spaces left if you'd like to get help from one of our coaches in a group setting before race season arrives. This month we're kicking off the next session of one of our longest standing and highest rated running programs, ET Learn To Run. If you've always wanted to become a runner in a safe, friendly and fun environment this is the class for you. Read more about this outstanding program led by Coach Suzy later in this newsletter. Over the next few months, the ET crew will be traveling to ET Spring Camp in Solvang, CA, Crazy Legs 8K in Madison, WI and finally to Memphis in May for our annual triathlon season kickoff race. We'd love to have you join us on these fun trips. Just drop me an email if you'd like more information. If we can help you achieve your dream, please let us know. Thanks for your continued support of EXPERIENCETriathlon! Coach Joe

Katie's First Triathlon From the ET Blog archive
I am writing this on Monday, the day after the triathlon.
My triathlon experience didn't begin yesterday. It actually began last August when I decided to "check out" the AARP sponsored triathlon in Naperville. I thought, Let's go see what it's like, I think I can do it. Well, within minutes of the first wave out of transition, I said to myself, "Yeah, you can do this, no problem!"
Well, HA! Those words came back to me many times over and over again but followed by... What were you thinking?
In October, as I was hurrying by the running club table on my way out of the health club, something, no, someone named Joe LoPresto, along with Suzy Cerra, pulled me in and educated me about the Running Club Learn To Run class. I signed up, gave them a check and ran out the door to meet up with my friends for Homecoming weekend at North Central College. Then reality sank in. What have I done?

Coach's Corner by Suzy Cerra
Why I Love Running Running. A sport that can be done anywhere and the only required equipment is a determined mindset, a good pair of running shoes and some comfortable moisture-wicking clothing. Besides being convenient and relatively inexpensive, running offers numerous health benefits. More people are running 5K races and marathons than ever before. An even larger number simply run for fitness and never go near a race starting line. Why do I love running? Because it makes me feel I can accomplish the impossible. It satisfies my yearning for adventure and it gives me moments of clarity otherwise unreachable. Problems and thoughts that have been swirling around in my mind disappear when I'm deep in the rhythm of my footsteps and my favorite tunes on my mp3 player. I often discover the perfect solution during my run or when I'm done with my workout. Simply put, running makes me a better person and a better Coach.
