Sarah at DanskinA Fabulous Freshman Year
 by Sarah F.

The morning was dark, chilly and foggy, the race site virtually empty when the shuttle bus dropped me off, save for a few race volunteers who must have been awarded the very early shift.  I had my body-marking done and headed into the sea of racked bikes.  When I'd racked my own bicycle the day before, there were only 3 others on my rack and a slight bit of breathing space around my bike.  Not the case now... bikes were jammed so closely that it took some finagling to lay out my gear. Not a problem; I'd make do.
The race didn't start for another 2.5 hours, and my wave wasn't set to go off for another 3 hours.  Keeping my brain off the intensifying nerves wasn't going to be easy.  I was doing this race alone, so there was no one to pass the time with.  Coach Suzy had given me an internal goal list to focus on, along with a few things to do ahead of time (pre-race warm-up swim, getting suited up in my wetsuit ahead of that, some stretching, etc), but time seemed to drag before I could actually start those things.

run clubET Run Club

ET Run Club is FREE and open to everyone - regardless of fitness level or running experience!!  The experienced and certified coaches of EXPERIENCETriathlon invite you to come join one of our regular group runs that are held on Saturday mornings at 8 AM.  We run outside year round, and we run in small groups according to distance and pace.  The distance typically ranges from 3 to 7 miles on any given run, and we make sure no one runs alone.
From November through April we meet at Starbucks, 22 E. Chicago Ave, Naperville 60540 and we run the Riverwalk trails south of downtown Naperville.
One of the highlights of our group run is the coffee social held after almost every run ~ after all, who doesn't run to EAT!

Solvang campET Spring Training Camp

Save The Date - ET's 2010 Spring Training Camp is Coming
We are proud to announce Experience Triathlon's 2010 Spring Training Camp in Santa Barbara Wine Country - one of the top wine regions in the world!
Camp will be held April 8 - April 12 in the Santa Ynez Valley, located approximately 30 miles outside of Santa Barbara and about a 2.5 hour drive from Los Angeles. Once again we will be staying in the quaint and charming town of Solvang, designed to look like a genuine Danish village. You will think you are in Europe as you savor the old-world ambiance and fragrance of fresh Danish pastries while strolling the streets of Solvang after a long day of riding. Join us as we cycle through scenic backcountry roads alongside sun-draped vineyards, oak-studded rolling hills, vibrant wildflowers, and majestic mountaintops - California wine country awaits!
Our camp committee is busy putting together the details of the trip including pricing, so stay tuned for that coming soon!

Holiday Healthy Eating Tips
Ahhhh, the holidays.  It's hard to believe, but they are almost upon us again!
One of my roles as an endurance coach is to educate athletes on healthy lifestyle nutrition, which can be a big challenge at a time of year when we are surrounded by high-calorie foods that we don't normally eat and temptation is at its highest.  As athletes, nutrition is a vital part of our training regimen, just as is having the right blend of cardiovascular and strength training workouts.  So, how do we maintain the healthy eating habits that we work so hard on throughout the year and avoid over-indulgence during the holidays?  As Coach Joe stressed in his recent Coach's Corner article on consistency, "success in training, racing and life goes to the smart, steady and consistent."  The same is true for surviving the holidays.  Following are some tips to help you be nutritionally smart, steady and consistent at those upcoming holiday events:
