Welcome to another edition of the Servidyne monthly newsletter. In this issue, we are featuring articles related to a couple of the most prominent discussion topics in energy these days.
The first is the continued move by government and society toward promoting more sustainable living, and more sustainable building operations. The New York City Greater Greener Buildings Program is a landmark program that will dramatically improve the overall energy efficiency of the stock of more than 22,000 buildings in New York's five boroughs larger than 50,000 square feet. Compliance requirements include energy benchmarking, auditing and retro-commissioning, and the installation of sub-meters and lighting retrofits. Other cities and states are beginning to consider similar actions, and as this movement evolves, I want you to know that Servidyne is poised to help you not only comply but take full advantage of these opportunities.
The second is the evolution of renewable energy. When most of us think of renewables we may think of solar or wind or even biomass, but perhaps nothing is as renewable as using less energy, and taking advantage of natural daylight. Servidyne recently completed a project at Langley Air Force Base that provided a large footprint of lighting controls for many of the Base's facilities. The optimization of daylighting, and the corresponding reduction of electric lighting, was the driving force behind the project. In the future, when someone asks you about renewable energy and your plans, please make sure you remember our friend the sun and the optimization of natural lighting in your building environment.
Thanks again for allowing us to be a part of your energy conversation, and happy reading!

Servidyne Pilots Lighting Control Project at Langley Air Force Base
Servidyne was hired to perform lighting audits on more than 70 buildings at Langley Air Force base. We then developed a strategy to design and install lighting controls and occupancy sensors in multiple facilities.
Overall, the project was designed to reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency, but Servidyne's expertise in this application also met design and comfort goals associated with lighting management.
Included in the project at Langley Air Force Base was modifying existing lighting control systems to establish daylighting and occupancy monitoring, and achieving an overall level of control consistent with the approved design documents.
Once the project was complete, Servidyne installed more than 6,000 lighting and daylighting control components at Langley Air Force base.

Shedding the Light on Greater Energy Savings

We can bring you unbelievable savings every month, and sometimes it's as simple as replacing old lamps with new ones! In other cases, we may recommend more complex solutions. In either case, you may realize 40 to 60 percent savings! Lighting systems also contribute significantly to the heat loads in buildings, so a more efficient system reduces cooling requirements and saves money.
Our lighting engineers are experts in today's industry standards and current technologies. We know which lighting products can offer you the best efficiency improvement opportunities, and we have solutions to correct or improve any problem. And we don't just make recommendations, we actually implement solutions though our project managers and installation teams. Our capabilities range from coast to coast.

NYC Greener, Greater Buildings Plan Are you ready?
Everyone's talking about the basics of the NYC Greener, Greater Buildings Plan, but did you know?
- The square footage to enter in Portfolio Manager is not the same as the figure shown by the Department of Finance, nor is it your REBNY rentable square footage?
- If your building has a data center and/or trading floor space, there are new requirements for how to treat this space in Portfolio Manager that could dramatically change your ENERGY STAR score?
- If you are using the NYSERDA Focus CRE benchmarking tool, you don't have to enter your data directly into Portfolio Manager?
Want to learn more? Visit the Servidyne NYC Greener, Greater Buildings Plan on the web to learn how you can partner with a leader in energy efficiency and have your building's benchmarked by May 1, 2011.
