Over 19,000 persons with disabilities remain on waiting lists for Medicaid Waiver support. They have been waiting - and they will continue to wait - 10 years or longer to receive critical services.

The current State budget does not address this waiting list. We know that is too much to ask in these economic times.

However, it is crucial that supports currently in place do not diminish and that we do everything possible to provide support to those who continue to wait.

Please Contact Your Legislators
Greetings!

The State Legislature will meet in Special Session starting Thursday, June 11. They will be concentrating on the Biennial State Budget.

This will be a difficult task for them. We need them to keep support for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the forefront. We also recognize that other areas are facing cuts that are more severe.

I am asking you to contact your legislators. Please remind them of our needs, but in your message, be respectful of the difficult decisions they need to make.

A sample message follows below, and to the left are some reasons that persons with disabilities need continued support. Certainly feel free to add any personal information you believe would be helpful.

It is through the efforts of advocates like you that services to persons with disabilities came to be, and it will be through the continued efforts of advocates that services will continue to be in place.

Thank you for all that you do.
Sample Message

As you send your message, you can be confident that the Senators and Representatives from this region have always been supportive of persons with disabilities.

Thank you for your continued support of persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. I know the need for support for people and communities in need is increasing while state revenues are decreasing. The task you face is not easy.

Knowing the difficulties you face, I still ask that as you consider this budget, you keep the needs of persons with disabilities in mind. Support for them is critical to our communities.
Support the Foundation

The Peak Community Services Foundation provides support to persons with developmental disabilities who are on waiting lists for services.

There are over 19,000 people in the State of Indiana on waiting lists now - at least 200 in Cass and Pulaski Counties - and the wait time will be over 10 years.
