Jeanne Blackburn, right, received the IFDA Ina Mae Kaplan Grant for Historic Preservation for her work toward publishing a book featuring the historic murals of Virginia McLaughlin, left.

Jeanne is VP of Communications for the DC Chapter and Regional Editor for Meredith Corporation - Better Homes and Gardens/ Traditional Home, et al. She is a magazine features writer who first interviewed Virginia over ten years ago, and has since written numerous features about her and her murals for national and regional publications. The grant will be used to fund Virginia's book which Jeanne is writing.

Virginia McLaughlin, whose business cards identify her as an itinerant painter, is a muralist whose talent and works have graced over 100 homes and public buildings since she began painting murals over 30 years ago.  Many are in private, historically significant homes but others can be seen in such public places as The Inn at Mt. Vernon, and The Silver Maple Restaurant in Braddock Heights, Maryland. Visit her website - www.virginiamclaughlin.com and prepare to be inspired.

Passaro

WOW!  It's hard to believe that summer is coming to and end.  I hope you have all enjoyed the past couple of months and were able to take some time off from your busy schedules.  I plan to represent the Washington Chapter at the annual Council of President's Meeting on September 13 and 14 in Philadelphia and will also attend Symposium later during that same week.  I look forward to having plenty of great information to share with you upon my return.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jackie Passaro, President
