Happy Holidays from all of us at the Washington House Inn! We hope you will find time to stroll along Washington Avenue, enjoy carolers, festivities at the Cedar Creek Settlement and window shop throughout the downtown Historic District.
Christmas in Cedarburg was recently featured in Chicago Magazine's December issue. Let us share an excerpt from an article written by Catey Sullivan. "You could go to the mall, or you could skip the generic, overcrowded chain stores and go back in time to do your holiday shopping at one-of-a-kind locally owned shops and galleries. Head to Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and you'll find that the Goodman Theatre isn't the only place where the ghosts of Christmas past emerge for the holidays. In this turn-of-the-century town, more than 100 buildings stretch seven blocks, from Washington Avenue to Hamilton Road. Almost everyone of them was built between 1840 and 1990 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places...." Pick up a copy of Chicago Magazine at your favorite book store and read about the enchanting Christmas in the Country holiday boutique taking place on the first weekend in December. We couldn't have said it better.

Recipe of the Month
Ginger Molasses Muffins
Dark and moist with molasses and spicy with ginger, these muffins are for gingerbread fans. For an extra jolt of ginger, add 2 Tablespoons finely chopped crystallized ginger to the batter just before baking.
2-1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 Tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda, sieved
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup unsulphured dark molasses
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly butter 12 muffin cups or coat with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Combine the flour, brown sugar, ginger, baking powder, baking soda and cloves in a large bowl; stir until well blended.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, molasses, oil and egg. Add to the dry ingredients all at once and fold just until evenly moistened. Do not overmix.
4. Divide the batter evenly among 12 muffin cups. Bake until the edges begin to pull away from the sides and a toothpick inserted in the centers comes out clean (20-22 minutes).
