Greetings from Cedarburg!

The sights and sounds of Spring can be heard everywhere .... roller blades and bikes along the Interurban Trail, music from the open doors in the pubs, friends laughing as they shop the unique boutiques along Washington Avenue.  And, with the return of robins to the area, we're also seeing most of the bistro tables outside the cafes and restaurants again--a very welcome sight.  The only thing needed to enhance this picture-perfect setting is You!

Rooms are still available for the Spring Chamber-sponsored Girlfriend's Getaway on April 15-16.  Call your best friends and set up your visit to include an overnight stay at the Inn, in addition to a tour of Cedar Creek Winery, two complimentary workshops ("Jewelry 101" & "Update Your Spring Wardrobe")  and an option to create a Swarovski crystal bracelet.   A special rate of $99.00 per person applies for your choice of guest room at The Washington House Inn.

Rooms are still booking for our Mid-Week Getaway Package which is offered Sunday through Thursday nights through the end of May.  This popular package includes overnight lodging in the best available guest room, our afternoon wine & cheese tasting, a $25 dinner certificate to a local restaurant and delicious continental breakfast the next morning.  The package rate is $150.00 plus taxes.  Participating restaurants include:   The Anvil Pub & Grille, Morton's WisonsinInn and Galioto's Vintage Grille.

The Inn is pleased to be hosting a Mystery Writing Boot Camp April 16-17.  This workshop will provide professional guidance, support and brainstorming ideas to hone your writing skills--with the unique setting of our historic building to help inspire your creativity.  You'll create your very own mystery in a group setting and will  return home with ideas, plots and the pleasures of a unique experience.  Visit the Boot Camp website here  for more information.  Lodging reservations can be made through The Washington House Inn's on-line reservtions system accessible on the Inn's website, or by contacting our front desk at any time.

April is the month that honors Earth Day and earth-inspired activities abound.  Plan your April stay to include an outdoor or nature-inspired activity at a nearby nature center:   Riveredge Nature Center , the Urban Ecology Center, or Schlitz Audubon Nature Center.  Each center offers a unique experience with walking trails, educational events and workshops on a wide range of subjects.  You might also consider bringing your bike along and cycle the Interurban Trail or follow pre-arranged routes organized by Cream City Cycle Club (see Calendar of Events below for details for special April events).

We always enjoy hearing from our guests and want you to know that we have a new e-mail address:  info@washingtonhouseinn.com.  Please update your address book so you can keep in touch with us.

We'll see you soon!
Sincerely,

Wendy J. Porterfield, Innkeeper

Recipe of the Month

Refrigerator Bran Muffins

We borrowed this recipe from our friends at the popular Creme and Crepe Cafe in the Cedar Creek Settlement.  The batter can be kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator for two weeks.

1 box (18 oz) Kellogg's All-Bran Cereal (Original)
2 cups boiling water
3 cups sugar
5 teaspoons baking soda
4 eggs, beaten
1 quart buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup oil
5 cups flour

In large bowl, pour boiling water over cereal, allow to soften 5 minutes.  Add remaining ingredients except flour, beat to mix well.  Fold in flour just until mixed.  Refrigerate until ready to bake.

To bake: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.  Line medium muffin pan with paper cups. Fill with 1/4 cup batter per muffin.  Bake 20-22 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Also delicious with a teaspoon of peach or apricot preserves in middle of batter, or with a few pecans on top.
