Greetings from Cedarburg!

What do sailboats, gardens, stargazing, massages, scrapbooks, lobsters, scavenger hunts, the Revolutionary War and farmer's markets all have in common with the Blues?  The answer is......an August in Ozaukee County.  We can hardly believe it is August already.  Our guests have been coming, going then returning again for the non-stop fun in Cedarburg.  Here are some things to look forward to this month.

The Stone and Century House Tour has been renamed "Architectural Treasures of Ozaukee County.....Stone, Century and More" and is scheduled for August 1-2.   This tour features 5 homes in addition to the Kubala Washatko Architect's studio.   This event draws attention to the importance of historic preservation and offers many creative restoration ideas.  Tours of the homes' gardens will be a new feature this year.  See the calendar of events below for further details.

You won't want to miss the Anvil Fest which is planned for August 29.   Join the Anvil staff as they serve up food and drinks on the grounds of the historic Cedar Creek Settlement.   Live entertainment will be provided by Mark Little and Verona Grove  (pop rock).  No entrance fee; 6-10pm.

With so many activities taking place, one may desire to incorporate some downtime into a visit in Cedarburg.  Expect wonderful things when you book your Midweek Spa Retreat which includes an overnight stay at The Washington House Inn (lodging Sunday-Thursday nights) and a massage at one of four premier local spas (spa service Monday-Friday).  Choose your spa service from Bespoken Salon & Spa, Bella Lei Salon & Spa, DeRiah Boutique Salon, or BodyMindSpiritWorks.  Contact the Inn for further deails.

We welcome The Hub, a new eatery in Cedarburg's downtown Historic District.  The Hub specializes in casual food and exotic drinks at reasonable prices.  Their tag line "Serve It Up" is exactly what they're doing in their new location approximately 2 blocks north of the Washington House Inn.  They serve Chicago style hotdogs, more than a dozen different hot grilled panini sandwiches, soups in sourdough bowls and fabulous salads.  The menu also includes energy drinks, fruit smoothies and frozen yogurt.  Be sure to stop in during your next visit.

See you soon!
Sincerely,

Wendy J. Porterfield, Innkeeper

August 1 & 2 Architectural Treasures of Ozaukee County: Stone, Century and More..." represents the 40th annual historic properties tour previously known as the Stone and Century House Tour. This year's tour is enhanced with the addition of architecturally significant properties less than 100 years old that offer insights into preservation, restoration and craftsmanship. The tour has traditionally featured exclusively stone structures and properties at least 100 years old. The tour is walkable, which allows tour-goers to more deeply experience the essence of the Cedarburg community. And the date change from early June to early August lets the homeowners' thriving gardens further enhance the featured architectural treasures.  The tour runs Saturday, August 1 from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday, August 2 from 12 pm to 4 pm. Tickets are good for both days and tour-goers can start and stop at properties in any order. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 262-375-3676.
