Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.
--Miriam Beard

Greetings from Cedarburg!

We have had numerous comments, inquiries and purchases of the artwork in our lobby gallery.  The artist, Sandra McCutcheon Pape, is also one of the owners of The Washington House Inn and her very unique artistic style is easily recognized.  She masterfully incorporates an endless stream of mediums (pieces of lace, buttons, bones, feathers, old photographs and more), into a collage format so no two pieces Painting Sandra McCutcheon Papeare ever alike.  Over the past few years she has delved into painting on tar paper; the paintings currently in our lobby are of this series.   Sandra is credited with the establishment of the annual Christmas in the Country Boutique and the Plein Air Painting contest that culminates in the auction during the Strawberry Festival; she contributes to the Cedarburg Artists Guild in addition to tirelessly organizing and participating in the varied Cedarburg festivals.  Visit her studio on the 3rd floor of the Cedar Creek Settlement to see what she's dreaming up next.  You can also periodically view Sandra's work at the Main Street Gallery exhibited at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. You're invited to link to this blog to find out more information about Sandra Pape and her ever-changing, eclectic style of expression.
