The Washington House Inn, Cedarburg, WI

"We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend."
--Robert L. Stevenson
Greetings from Cedarburg!

Cedarburg's Winter Festival was held in early February and was a tremendous success, providing a highly-anticipated respite during these winter months.  Mother Nature certainly smiled upon this event with un-seasonally warm weather (can you believe 58 degrees!) and record crowds attended & participated in the various events.  The ice sculptures were a crowd pleaser, but certainly didn't last long with the heat wave; and the bed races were especially slushy, increasing the overall fun factor.  We hope you were able to attend and take in all the fun during this annual event.   The Washington House Inn has begun accepting reservations and would love to have you with us for the next Winter Festival, February 13-14, 2010!

Our attention is now turned toward March with plenty of activities to keep our restless spirits soothed and entertained.  Although March marks the official start of Spring, here in Cedarburg we're still enjoying outdoor winter activities from snowshoeing (rentals available at Local Motion Outfitters), sledding and ice skating on Cedar Creek.  Bring your skates and join us soon!  Besides the Cedar Creek Winery's Annual Open House and St. Patrick's Day activities, March is looking to be a wonderfully fun month.  Even with these cooler weather events, we're keeping our eyes open in hopes of spotting the first robin, marking the unofficial arrival of Spring.

Did you notice on your last visit to the Inn that we've been offering a hot menu item during our continental breakfast?  You're bound to enjoy the changing menu as much as we enjoy dreaming up tasty treats to please the diverse palettes of our guests.  We have been pleased to continue enhancing our breakfast offerings and wonder what's been your favorite item?  We served homemade bread pudding today and such delicious smells came from the kitchen!  We've included the recipe for you below.  Bon appetite!

We hope you are as excited as we are about the upcoming "Girlfriends Getaway in Historic Cedarburg" scheduled for March 20th, details of which were e-mailed to your earlier this month.  This is an exceptional opportunity to have fun with friends (or mothers & daughters) and spend some quality time during pre-arranged activities on Friday night (create glass beaded bracelets, custom-designed photo frames, or try glass fusing and make a take-home wine stopper).  Saturday can be focused on individual interests like shopping the unique boutiques along Washington Avenue, a visit to the annual Cedar Creek Winery Open House, or take in a play at Memories Ballroom.  There is always something to do in Cedarburg!  So call your friends and get the date on the calendar a.s.a.p. (the Calendar of Events below includes getaway details).

And as you can see, we're rolling out an exciting new format to our newsletter.  Have we really published the newsletter 2 full years now?  Time sure does fly!  We sure would love to hear what you think about the new format.  And, feel free to direct friends, family or anyone else to our website where folks can easily sign up to receive future issues too.  See you soon.
Sincerely,
Wendy J. Porterfield, Innkeeper
