Good Thursday to all of you China Dine-ah fans! We had a tremendous response to the article regarding my visit with Mr. Joe Bradstreet and many also commented on his antique vehicles. In fact, I believe we had the most people respond since the inception of the newsletter. It is heartwarming that so many of you tune in each week, answer the trivia question, share your thoughts with me or simply open the newsletter and scan down through it. Just yesterday I visited a couple in Gorham and had lunch with them while in the area on business. This is the second time that Bob and Muriel opened up their home and provided me lunch. Muriel prepared a chicken stir fry, which was delicious, with a side of sliced apples and grapes. I would say this couple eats very healthy and they are just a treat to be around. After lunch, we talked for three hours about everything from their camp in Jefferson on Damariscotta Lake to day trips they have been taking all summer. Two weeks ago they went up into Canada and came back down through Baxter State Park, ending up in Millinocket. They took a ride on the Golden Road and as chance would have it, I was in the same area at about the same time bird hunting with my breakfast chef Ralph Arbour. No, we did not run into each other! Thank you Bob and Muriel for a wonderful and stress free afternoon. A week does not go by that one or several of you readers share with me something that is weighing heavily on your mind. The overriding theme is an illness to a family member or someone that you care for very much. You are a very compassionate group that seem to care greatly for others. This is a great trait to have and one that I surely share with you. One friend, who I met through the Dine-ah and have developed a friendship since, informed me that his wife just suffered a stroke this past Tuesday night/ early Wednesday morning. We have shared several emails, but have yet to talk. Her condition has improved since the event, but it appears there is still a way to go towards full recovery. Each time I hear of a tragic event such as this, it helps make me, and hopefully others, appreciative of each and every day, especially if we have good health. Please join me in extending your thoughts and prayers to Walter and his wife Dale. On a lighter note, we are celebrating our 5th anniversary during the week of October 23rd. It will be a week of giveaways including but not limited to ten certificates for our 32 oz. Rib-diculous Prime Rib dinner, ten free breakfast buffet certificates, free dessert certificates and one winner will receive free desserts for an entire year! We will have other discounted menu items and staff will be dressed in a Western theme, which goes hand in hand with the decor of the Dine-ah. Please come and join in the fun. The festivities will last the entire week Tuesday October 23rd, which is our actual birthday when we opened in 2007, through Sunday October 28th. In closing, we are in need of an individual who raises pigs and would like some delicious scraps for their animals. If you are interested or know of anyone who is interested, please let us know either through the newsletter or by calling the Dine-ah at 445-5700 and ask for Sherri or Michelle.
