Good Thursday to All!

The college kids are all gone back to school and most of the public schools have also started classes.  

I am proud to say we have five individuals who are going on to college  this year. Four of the five may continue to work at the Dine-ah in some capacity with the exception of Zachary Forbes, who was our only male waiter. Zach, as we all call him, has headed to Syracuse University and decided that the drive home on Friday night, just wouldn't be worth it, even though he tells me that all of you customers have been very generous over the past several years of his employment. Zach did a wonderful job for us and will not only be missed by management but also by his fellow workers and customers. We hope Zach will rejoin us next summer however that remains to be seen.  

Derek Elvin and Josiah Haywood are attending Thomas College in Waterville, Maine and may end up picking up a shift or two once they get settled in at school and run out of cash! Word in the kitchen is that they will be missed also.  

Quick joke - note to Dad from college student: "No mon, no fun, your son" and the Dad writes back " Too bad, so sad, your Dad" This was told to me by my father when I was about 14 years old  and certainly set the tone on how money was distributed at home when I was a child!  

Morgan Prescott is headed to Husson in Bangor and Darcy Dennis is headed to UMF in Farmington. I'm not exactly sure of their status as it relates to future employment but all five of these individuals left in very good standing and will be welcomed back should they decide. All five of these individuals will be greatly missed but as our summer season winds down, the timing is perfect.  

For the record, I did not shed any tears when I hugged Derek and shook Josiah's hand and wished them both the best. Many of you wrote and said that I would. I did shed a tear when just the adults were in the auditorium listening to a motivational speaker. For a moment, it felt like the little boy, that I knew so well was leaving home, but in a short while, I realized it was the young adult that was leaving and it was time for me to let go. No more checking in with Dad at night, no more calls on "Where are you headed?", and no more calls to tell me what you are doing. Hopefully we have given him the tools to make good decisions and if he doesn't I have taught him to accept the consequences. God bless all these youngsters.
