Good Day to All!
Trivia Nights at the Dine-ah on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm have proven to be a huge success! It has been a big boost to historically slow mid week nights during the winter months. Last night we had 61 participants with Todd Tolhurst serving as the emcee for the evening. He was filling in for Jon James our regular emcee who had another commitment-thank you Todd! Please join us we always have room for more Trivia players!
Thanks to all who wrote last week. The response was overwhelming and I'm so glad I wrote about such a delicate subject. The article compelled a lot of you, to open up and express your feelings about what you are going through or have recently experienced with a loved one.
On a brighter note, I had the opportunity last week to go into one of our local schools, Lincoln Elementary School in Augusta, to read to Miss Brandi Verrill's kindergarten class (see picture below) . It was the kick-off event for a two week Read-A-Thon to encourage kids to get excited about reading. I was accompanied by Dude the Dine-ah Dog, who was definitely an added attraction!

The book I read to the class was "Corduroy", a book about a little bear who is wearing corduroy coveralls that are missing a button. This made him less than perfect, as he sat on a store shelf waiting to be taken home by a little boy or girl.
The story is about friendship and love and how one doesn't have to be perfect to be accepted by others. The book was loaned to me by a friend and it was a big hit with the kids as was Dude the Dine-ah Dog, played by my son Derek!
Later that same week, I attended a business conference at the Capital Area Technical Center. I spoke to a dozen high school culinary arts students from around central Maine about what it takes to be in the restaurant business. I spoke for an hour and took questions from the students. I plan on returning to the school in the future. These students were very sharp and asked some really great questions. I have been given a gift (yes it was earned!) of being a successful businessman and I want to share my experience whenever possible.
I would like to thank the staff at Lincoln Elementary School, especially Miss Brandi Verrill, and the staff at Capital Area Technical School, especially Mr. Charles Izzi and Mrs. Valerie Arbour, for allowing me this opportunity.
My heart goes out to all who are facing life's struggles. Each of you keep your chin up and a smile on your face.
Tomorrow will be a better day, if we all work together.
It amazes me that people still come in who have been to the Dine-ah several times and say " Oh, you serve breakfast?" Of course we do and we are told it is some of the finest around! So please join us for either breakfast, lunch or dinner.
'Til next week,
