Message from the Chair Rob Crow, Class of 2006
I am sure I am not alone in wondering where the summer has
gone!
With the looming onset of fall and back to school, thoughts
of leaves changing colors and football fill my mind. Even if you are not
a sports fan, you likely have a strong allegiance to your alma mater. We
show it in many ways from clothing to bumper stickers and rings to flags.
In my new role Chair of the Alumni Association, I wonder if
alumni of Leadership Spokane have the same passion for our program. If
not, what can we do to help stir their feelings to a passionate level? I
know that the answer will not lie in fight songs or cheerleaders. In
fact, I believe it will be brought about by a greater involvement. We
cannot sit idly by and watch "our team" pour out their blood, sweat and tears
while we are content cheering them on. Instead, we are the team that others should cheer and support. In the spirit of servant
leadership, we will do so not for our own glory, but rather to inspire
others to join in and do the same.
The Alumni Association Steering Committee had a strategic planning session two weeks ago. You'll be hearing from us soon. In the mean time, as
fall approaches, let your thoughts drift to ideas of what you think it would
take to proudly proclaim your involvement in the community as an alumnus of
Leadership Spokane. Please take a few minutes to send them to us at leadership@leadershipspokane.org.
Rob can be reached at rcrow@lloydpans.com.

Conversation with a Donor
Name: Jan Roseleip Company: Affiliated with Tomlinson Valley, Inc. Position: Realtor Graduation year: Class of 2003, Leadership Spokane Board of Directors Why do you support Leadership
Spokane financially and as a volunteer? I had a great
experience going through the program and want to make it possible for others to
do the same. I believe it is necessary to financially support organizations where you are
giving your time and talents. Leadership Spokane is developing leaders to be
engaged in our community to further the health of our region. If people don't
support the development of future leaders, our community will suffer and not
reach its full potential.
What prompted you to become a donor to
Leadership Spokane?
There was no prompting
involved. It was very clear to me as I went through the program that I would
financially support it.
What method do you use to donate (monthly,
quarterly, annually, etc.)?
I donate monthly
through an automatic payment withdrawal...it's so easy!
You can donate to Leadership Spokane online through our PayPal account, or by contacting Beth at 321.3639. |

Help Us Welcome Our New Interns, Vawn and Michael!
My name is
Vawn Borges and I am originally from the beautiful state of Hawaii. I came to
Spokane over three years ago to attend Gonzaga University, where I am now in my
fourth year. I am currently working toward completion of a B.A. in the fields of Political Science and History.
In the past
few years, I have worked as both a professional and volunteer event planner. In
that time, I have gained a great deal of experience coordinating everything
from big-budget weddings and conventions to fundraising events and fairs for
non-profit organizations. I look forward to my work here at Leadership Spokane
as Events Intern and hope that my experience will be useful to fulfilling the vision of this
organization.
Michael Imasua: An individual's journey towards a significant life requires attainment of maturity, enlightenment, and a desire to make a difference in the world. I hope that my story can inspire progressive leaders everywhere to overcome adversity and pursue the life with a passion for helping others and building an effective community.
I consider myself a global citizen, scholar, and professional aspirant. I want to be an asset to the global community because of my rich life experiences, personal characteristics, distinctive perspective and proven commitment to servant leadership. I was born in Nigeria, and I am currently engaged in higher education at Gonzaga University, pursuing a Political Science and a Business career within the framework of a global relations perspective.
I currently hold memberships in local and global organizations. I am proud to serve as Marketing Intern for Leadership Spokane and am looking forward to playing a role in fulfilling the mission of this wonderful organization.
Both MIchael and Vawn can be reached at 321.3645 or lsintern@leadershipspokane.org. |
