Victim Services, Western Illinois University's (WIU) Women's Center, along with several other groups on campus and in the community are anxiously awaiting word from the Department of Justice's Office of Violence Against Women whether WIU has received a grant for reducing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on the Macomb campus.   Read more...

..."much like a fire, ensuring safety and ending sexual assault is everyone's business."


Last month, there was a large fire on Macomb's downtown square. The Macomb Fire Department received a report from employees in an adjacent building who were alerted by a fire alarm and saw smoke. The fire department arrived, and although the building was destroyed, the early actions of the employees most likely prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the businesses on the block.   Read more...

Denim Day is an Outward Stand Against Sexual Assault



In 1992, an 18-year old girl in Italy was raped by her 45-year old driving instructor. He took her to an isolated road, pulled her out of the car, removed one of her legs from her jeans and forcefully raped her. Threatened with death if she told anyone, he made her drive the car home. Later that night she told her parents, and they helped and supported her in pressing charges. The perpetrator was arrested,  prosecuted, convicted of rape and sentenced to jail.   Read more...
