| Greetings! | |
Yahtzee is about rolling five dice to make one of thirteen possible combinations. I wondered how Yahtzee relates to wisdom, or spirituality, or our faith. Is there a balance between chance and the various decisions we make?
Holy Trinity is a unique combination of our building, its staff, congregation members, and guests joining us each Sunday. Each week the combination is a bit different. Last Sunday we had many guests present for four baptisms. No Sunday is like another, but each one holds a unique combinations of gifts, challenges, and opportunities.
Last year's Voices discernment process led to three strategic directives for the next phase of our life together. Two of them come together in Friday's fundraiser, Yahtzee Night: develop networks through which we support and delight in one another, and engage together in service addressing unmet needs. We have a great opportunity to get to know each other and make new connections in a fun setting, as well as to support the many ministries important to the congregation.
We hope you can join us in a night of exciting combinations. And if you can't be present, please make a special donation to support our local ministries, as all gifts will be matched by Thrivent Financial. Scroll down for more information!
Rejoicing in all the combinations and opportunities in this and every day, Pr. Craig M. Mueller

In words and deeds we bear witness to the risen Christ-our way, our truth, our life.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life - Josh-Judd Herzfeldt Christians today acknowledge that through Jesus, one finds God. Join in conversation as we explore different ways in which scholars have reconciled the fact that much of the world is not Christian, and what that means given Jesus' words in John that no one comes go God except through him. This week's lessons Prayer for Sunday
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another, to follow in the way of his commandments, and to share his risen life with all the world, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. |

Last Sunday's Sermon

The Fourth Sunday of Easter May 15, 2011 John 10:1-10 Pr. Craig M. Mueller THE HAPPY LIFE, THE GOOD LIFE, OR THE ABUNDANT LIFE?
What kind of life do we want for our children? For our community? For ourselves? Maybe it's happiness-the happy life. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are part of our American psyche. A recent report on CBS Sunday Morning named the happiest places in the country. Actually, it's a well-being index which includes physical and emotional health, as well as work satisfaction. The happiest city? Boulder, miles from where I grew up. Great views. Healthy, interesting people. The happiest state? Hawaii. But before you think it's just the weather, the next were Wyoming, North Dakota, Alaska and Colorado. No southern state made the list.

AMONG OUR COMMUNITY

Member Aana Vigen and Luther Seminary professor Christian Scharen are pleased to announce that their new book, Ethnography as Christian Theology and Ethics, is now available. Here is a synopsis of the work:
In response to a variety of critical intellectual currents (post-colonial, post-modern, and post-liberal) scholars in Christian theology and ethics are increasingly taking up the tools of ethnography as a means to ask fundamental moral questions and to make more compelling and credible moral claims. Privileging particularity, rather than the more traditional effort to achieve universal or at least generalizable norms in making claims regarding the Christian life, echoes the most fundamental insight of the Christian tradition-that God is known most fully in Jesus of Nazareth. Echoing this "scandal of particularity" at the heart of the Christian tradition, theologians and ethicists involved in ethnographic research draw on the particular to seek out answers to core questions of their discipline: who God is and how we become the people we are, how to conceptualize moral agency in relation to God and the world, and how to flesh out the content of conceptual categories such as justice that help direct us in our daily decisions and guiding institutions.
