The march on Atlanta has begun at the Dane County Regional Airport

On Tuesday, November 2, with ripe peaches in hand, just over 40 passengers helped celebrate the return of daily, non-stop service from Dane County Regional Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport on board the Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Airport Director Bradley S. Livingston added that the return of service to Atlanta was something both business and leisure travelers have requested. "This service not only provides a link to the southern United States, people can also connect from Atlanta to over 210 destinations around the world."

Delta to add two new flights to Detroit Metro Airport

Dane County Regional Airport Director Bradley S. Livingston has just learned that Delta Air Lines will be adding two new flights to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) on March 2. "These flights provide much needed capacity to the Delta Detroit hub and gives passengers better connecting opportunities globally," Livingston said.  The new flights will depart Dane County Regional Airport daily at noon and at 3 PM. Return arrivals for these flights will be at 11:07AM and 2:22 PM. Dane County Executive Kathleen

Falk said that she is pleased with these additional flights to Detroit.  "Whether it's for a businessperson headed to a conference, or a family flying to a reunion with relatives, the more travel options we can provide our airport customers, the better able they are to schedule trips that fit their busy lives." Once these new flights begin, there will be eight flights a day from Madison to Detroit and back.

Pinnacle, a Delta connector, will fly the 50 seat CRJ-200 aircraft for these flights. For more information and to book your flight visit:

American Eagle Airlines adds

3rd flight from Madison to Dallas/Fort Worth

Dane County Regional Airport Director Bradley S. Livingston has just been informed that American Eagle Airlines will add a third daily, non-stop flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on February 10, 2011.  "Business and leisure travelers have told us that non-stop flights to DFW help link them to popular locations in Texas, and are also a vital link to the Southwest and Western United States and beyond. We're pleased the Dane County Regional Airport can now provide them with another opportunity to get there," Livingston said. The flights to DFW from the Dane County Regional Airport will be at 6:30 AM, 11:15 AM, and 4:45 PM, with return arrivals at 10:45 AM, 4:20 PM, and 10:15 PM. Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk said she's delighted by the news of this additional flight to DFW. "Today's air traveler is focused on value, and convenience is part of that mix. Giving our airport customers a third option to this popular destination allows them to make travel decisions based on what's best for their schedules and travel plans." American Eagle Airlines will use the 50 seat, ERJ 145 aircraft for this new flight, as it does for its current flights to DFW.

Tips from the TSA on traveling with food

Who are we kidding?  One of the reasons we look so forward to the holidays is for the chance to indulge in delicious food! But if you're traveling by air over the holidays and plan to pack goodies along with you, well the Transportation Security Administration has some rules on that.  Here is a list of food items that, according to the TSA, should be in your checked bag, shipped ahead, or left at home:

  • Cranberry sauce
  • Creamy dips and spreads, including cheeses and peanut butter
  • Gift baskets with food items, especially those that include salsa, jams and salad dressings
  • Gravy
  • Jams
  • Jellies
  • Maple syrup
  • Oils and vinegars
  • Soups
  • Wine, liquor and beer

The TSA notes that you can bring pies and cakes through the security checkpoints, but please be advised that they are subject to additional screening.  However, food items purchased after the security checkpoint have been pre-screened and can be taken on the plane.

Air Force Two comes in

Biden

In September, the Dane County Regional Airport welcomed Air Force One and President Barack Obama. In October, it was Vice President Joe Biden's turn to touchdown at DCRA. The Vice President made a campaign stop at the Monona Terrace Convention Center October 7. Though not as large as Air Force One, the vice president's plane, a C-32, does include a fully enclosed stateroom, conference and staff facility, and state-of-the-art communications and safety equipment.  The C-32 is also used by the first lady, members of the cabinet, and members of congress.

"...the gales of November
come early...."

The high wind we experienced in late October did force a handful of flights to divert to the Dane County Regional Airport, as well as some flight delays and cancellations at other airports that caused a ripple effect here. According to Airport Operations, the highest wind gust recorded here during that windstorm was 46 knots (roughly 52 miles per hour) at just after 3 PM on October 26. But despite what one national television network reported, the Dane County Regional Airport did NOT close due to the high wind. However, the windstorm did serve as a reminder of how important it is to check with your airline before you come to the airport to make sure your flight isn't delayed or cancelled.  There are links to all of the airlines serving Dane County Regional Airport on our web site msnairport.com , along with the Flight Tracker program, and FAA flight delay information. You'll find it all under the "Flight Status" tab of our web site.
Stressless

Come in and take a load off!

"Ahhh!" We're hearing that a lot these days around the Dane County Regional Airport thanks to some new comfortable chairs courtesy of our friends at Century House. With a brand name of "Stressless" by Ekornes, you can't help but relax prior to your flight in these reclining, ergonomically designed, seats that are even endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association!  Look for them between gates 7 and 8 on the second floor of the terminal and...relax.
