Passport fees increase
Charges for U.S. passports and visas for foreigners are going up July 13. The State Department reports the cost of a passport for an adult increases from $100 to $135, including a $25 administrative fee. The cost for a passport for those 16 and under goes up from $85 to $105. The increases cover costs of operating consular posts, domestic passport agencies, and other centers that provide service to U.S. and foreign citizens. |

Airport planning goes high tech

Back in the day when the photo on the left was taken, we were known as Madison Municipal Airport, and planning for a new terminal back then was pretty basic (although we're quite sure propellers weren't used for actual shovels!).
In 2010, the Dane County Regional Airport has been chosen by the Federal Aviation Administration to be one of a handful airports in the nation to test its Geographic Information System. The GIS will store three-dimensional images of the the airport's buildings, runways and taxiways, as well as information about what lies beneath the airport's surface--like electrical services and water mains. That information then can be downloaded for use by airport planners, engineers, and contractors. The FAA also awarded the airport a $725,000 grant for the GIS. The award comes from the FAA's trust fund, which uses money collected through special taxes on airport users and aviation fuel, not general taxes. |

Larger aircraft to NY, D.C. coming in September
Delta Airlines has just announced it will replace the 50 seat aircraft it currently flies from the Dane County Regional Airport to Washington's Reagan National Airport with a 76 seat CR9 aircraft. A 70 seat CR7 will replace the 50 seat aircraft that currently flies from Madison to New York's La Guardia Airport. Both aircraft offer first class seating and begin service from the Dane County Regional Airport on September 7.
Also, Frontier Airlines has temporarily replaced the 99 seat Embraer Aircraft it has been flying from the Dane County Regional Airport to Denver, and is now flying the larger Airbus 318. The Airbus, which will operate here through September 7, holds 120 passengers and includes stretch seating. Frontier will return to using the Embraer 190 aircraft for its daily, non-stop flights to Denver after
September 7. |
Where is there a place to park?
We know you don't want to begin the first leg of your trip driving around a parking ramp looking for a place to park. That's why the Dane County Regional Airport has installed a new sign right outside the parking structure to give you an idea of where there are parking spots available. We expect to have the system fully operational before the end of the summer. |

Travel tips for flying
with kids
- Research flight times with different airlines and consider flying at times that aren't so busy to have more room to feed and take care of your child.
- Try traveling with your child at night so sleep routines aren't interrupted.
- Always be sure to bring enough diapers and food for the flight, scheduled layovers, and unexpected flight delays.
- Bring toys that work well on airplanes, like a favorite teddy bear or soft toy, crayons and coloring books, small plastic toys such as cars, dolls or animals, an Etch A Sketch or a travel Magna Doodle.
- Remember, it's more important to be comfortable than fashionable during air travel. Dress your child in layers to adapt to changing temperatures, or for a quick change in case of spills.
- Check infant carriers and strollers at the gate, not the ticket counter. It will make it a lot easier to get from place to place at the airport.

Between May 28 and July 4, more than 15,000 Wisconsin residents voted and the name Buddy prevailed over Cookie and Bella. Frontier put a badger on the tail of its newest 99-seat Embraer 190 aircraft just prior to starting its non-stop service from Madison to Denver in May. |
