Frontier Launches Denver Service
On Monday, May 3, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and Frontier Air Lines Vice President Cliff Van Leuven cut the ribbon to officially welcome Frontier to the Dane County Regional Airport. Frontier is now providing daily, non-stop flights to Denver from Madison with connections from Denver to points West. Earlier this year, Republic Airways acquired both Frontier and Midwest Airlines. The company decided in April to keep both airlines under the Frontier Brand. However, Jim Reichart, Frontier's Vice President of Brand Management, says the ticket counter at the airport will continue to have signs for both airlines to allow customers enough time to get used to the change. Besides its attractive low fares, Frontier also receives high marks for comfort and amenities such as DirectTV and Google Internet on selected aircraft. Airport Director Bradley Livingston said, "We're pleased to offer our customers Frontier's service, and look forward to a long and successful relationship with them."

Name the Badger Contest
In honor of its service in Wisconsin, Frontier Airlines has "hired" a new spokesanimal, a badger, but he (or, maybe it's a she) needs a name, and you can help. Follow this link to name the badger! The contest is open to Wisconsin residents only. C'mon and show your Badger pride so Jack, Larry, Flip, and all the other spokesanimals know just who they're dealing with! |

The Honor Was Ours!
The year is 2010, but it could have been 1945, as hundreds of well wishers gathered at the Dane County Regional Airport on April 17 to welcome back the Badger Honor Flight. Over a hundred World War Two veterans were treated to a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials in their honor. Upon their arrival home, the veterans--some of whom still cut a dashing figure in their uniforms--greeted friends and family to the sound of the era presented by the swing band, "Ladies Must Swing."
Hundreds Gather to Welcome Veterans Home |
Badger Honor Flight spokesman Steven Bartlett, said, "We are committed to flying again from the Dane County Regional Airport in the fall, provided that we can reach our $100,000 goal. Watch this column in the future for the specific flight date." You can volunteer, sign up a Veteran, or donate at: www.badgerhonorflight.org |
Roadwork Won't Affect Airport Access

Roadwork has begun on International Lane between Packers Avenue and Darwin Road. The work is not expected to affect access to or from the Dane County Regional Airport, however there could be occasional delays, and airport customers should allow themselves extra time to arrive at the facility. The road may also be reduced to one lane in each direction during non peak hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays. The work is expected to continue through June 10, 2010.

United and Continental Airlines Announce Plans to Merge
What could it mean for service at Dane County Regional Airport?
With the announcement early this month that United and Continental Airlines plan to join forces, there have been questions as to what that merger could mean for travelers at the Dane County Regional Airport.
"Right now, it's too soon to say what, if any, impact the merger will have on service here," said Airport Director Bradley Livingston. Both airlines offer service from Madison, but the services do not overlap, with United Express flying to Denver and Chicago, and Continental Express providing service to Cleveland and Newark.
Airline and travel industry analysts predict this proposed merger will be under tighter scrutiny than some of the more recent alliances, like the 2008 merger of Northwest and Delta. Wisconsin U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, head of the Senate Judiciary Committee's antitrust panel, is just one lawmaker who has called for hearings to determine how the merger could impact fares and service.

The Grimm Details
An exhibit of the works of the Brothers Grimm is
on display now through June 25 in the Art Court of the Dane County
Regional Airport. Best known for fairy tales like "Hansel and Gretel"
and "Little Red Riding Hood," the brothers spent much of their lives in
Kassel Germany, which is Dane County's sister county. This is the first
exhibit of their work in North America.

Travel Tip: It's in the Bag
Here's a tip courtesy of 1000tips4trips.com :
If you must take valuables like cameras etc. (especially when flying), then pack them in a diaper bag. It's less likely to be stolen and many of them have outer pockets that you can slip other things into like your itinerary, snacks, change, etc. The bottle holders are great for bottled water. Some of these bags are better designed for organization than some expensive luggage.
