Airport website has new look

Dane County Regional Airport's website has a new look, with easier access to the Arrivals and Departures, a new "employment" section and the popular "Low Fares" box provided by Airfare Watchdog. Check out the changing photos on the Home Page and our new design. Let us know if there is anything else you'd like to see on the website.

More flights to Detroit, Memphis

Delta Air Lines is adding one additional daily flight from Madison to Detroit and Memphis in April, bringing to nine the number of daily flights to Detroit, and two to Memphis. This expands the options for Madison passengers to connect with domestic and international flights from these hubs.

You can't miss the two well-equipped "hogs" and great Harley accessories on display at the top of the landing leading to the security checkpoint.  Check out these Wisconsin originals on your next trip to the airport, courtesy of Capital City Harley-Davidson
Vancouver beefs up security for Olympics

border patrol
Vancouver's airport has beefed up its security equipment and added extra staff to hand-search U.S.-bound passengers in the wake of tighter American security rules just weeks before an expected flood of Winter Olympics visitors. The Olympics take place Feb.12-28; the Paralympics March 12-21. And, if you're flying to Canada, don't forget your Passport or NEXUS card, as this documentation is now needed for crossing the U.S. / Canadian border by air.
Authorities tighten rules for travelers headed to U.S. from 14 countries

U.S. authorities have tightened the set of rules for travelers headed into the United States from 14 nations deemed to be "state sponsors of terrorism" or other "countries of interest."

The new measures, announced by the Transportation Security Administration on Jan. 3 target passengers arriving from Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Algeria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen.

Individuals flying into the U.S. from or through these nations will undergo additional security screening with an emphasis on a full body pat-down or scan, and physical inspection of property.

Baggage fees on the rise

Citing continued economic pressure, Delta, United, American and Continental airlines have raised fees for checked baggage.  For bags checked at the airport, the fees are now $25 for the first checked bag and $35 for the second.   Midwest Airlines, as of publication, is still at $20 for the first checked bag and $30 for the second bag checked at the airport.  See the Ultimate Guide for Airlines Fees, compiled by Smarter Travel.
Airlines face big fines for delays
White House

The Obama administration will begin levying hefty fines against U.S. airlines for subjecting domestic passengers to lengthy tarmac delays.  The new rule adopted by the Transportation Department in December sets fines of as much as $27,500 per passenger when airlines leave fliers stuck on a plane on the ground for more than three hours. Based on a delayed plane carrying 120 passengers, the fine could be as much as $3.3 million. The rule would apply to planes with more than 30 seats, and will take effect this spring.

 Cheese needs no refrigeration

Did you know that cheese purchased at the airport does not need to be refrigerated for up to 12 hours after purchase?  So enjoy those cheese curds on the plane, or bring a gift of cheese--Something Special from Wisconsin.  A variety of cheeses are available at the Wisconsin Marketplace and the Lake Country Travel Mart in the airport.
